Well to begin with lets make one thing crystal clear. **I Dont Like NOKIA.
*It all started when Nokia started using Simbian for software on it multimedia phones. I actually liked the simpler phone that it made before the 6600s and communicators as they ware nice, sleek( According to then standards) and rich in features. Not to forget easy to use. But once Nokia discovered 6600 and then China for manufacturing its products took a hit in quality.
Now back to the phone I am here to review the N82. Well my younger brother bought it after much pestering and even though he says he loves I I am pretty sure he is just putting p a brave face. OK so the phone is so jam packed with connectivity options so its weight of only 114gm is justified I guess. Yet it looks and feels heavy mainly because the 5 MP, 2592 x 1944 pixels, Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, video(VGA 30fps), xenon flash on the back of the secondary VGA camera for video calls on top of the TFT, 16M colors, 240 x 320 pixels, 2.4 inches screen. The overall size is 112 x 50.2 x 17.3 mm which is pretty small in compared to other business phones with keypads.
Coming to the keypad, Nokia is known for its quirky keypads like the n-gauge series, the 7710, 3660 and more recently the N91 with music buttons on the slider and numbers below it & the N95 with double slider. you get the picture. but this time the company has gone overboard. of the little space that the screen has left for the keypad most of it is wasted in blank space with number keys so thin you might brave finger cuts trying to use it over a long period of time. Also the navigation buttons are big but have quite a lot of play in them which means that you need to press it a lot further to actually hit the button. and it feels pretty flimsy though I guess it would not be.
Next the Auto Tilt feature- Fun to use for the first 20 seconds then you get bored unless you are watching a movie in which case its a nice touch. Also it is really useful while browsing the internet on the Wi-Fi connection, and you can view any website that you could view on the internet(even video sites like YouTube) which just makes it a great alternative to cheap laptops.
Talking of laptops, It can easily be used to replace one, All you need to do is upgrade the Document viewer and you are good to go. The HSDPA data access would be providing broadband speed internet on the mobile device once 3g Networks are in place in the country. and even till that does not hapen there are Wi-Fi hot spots and with Indian cities trying to be Wi-Fi enabled the future is great. Also it has built in GPS and Nokia Maps, which is a paid service free for the first few months I guess. But you could also download Google maps and you would be good to go.
Next Up the music. Well I use a Walkman phone so I wont be able to give you a fair comparison bit it has 2 GB external memory to store the songs and A2DP for wireless stereo bluetooth which would be enough for an average user as the quality is as expected from Nokia. The phone has 2 speakers on the side which are really best used only for the ring tone. Also there is this sweet software Called 3d tones which makes the ringtone feel. well 3d
