Nokia N97 Mini Review

The N97 Mini was supposed to be a reinvention of the disastrous N97. But unfortunately, after around 5 months of use, I have realised that Nokia is hell bent on cheating its customers with buggy and crappy phones. There are various reasons why I say this. I will elaborate below:

1. Phone’s Software/OS - **Symbian is a dead OS. Period. If you dont believe me, just get hold of an iPhone or even an HTC Legend and you’ll know the difference. Symbian used to be good for non-touchscreen devices, but for touchscreen ones, its plain terrible.

2. Ovi Store/Applications - Why do you buy a smartphone? So that you can use the applications which are developed by leading programmers around the planet. Ovi Store currently has not even 1/10th of the apps Android and Apple App Store has. Its appalling how Nokia is advertising something which is an epic failure. There is no official Twitter application on Ovi Store. There are no health apps(even if there are, its either a paid one or not from a leading developer). There is no official Dropbox client for Symbian(has for both Android and iOS). I can cite millions of such examples.

3. RAM/Processor - Trust me when I say this, the phone’s processing capabilities suck big time. Reason? Its got 128MB of RAM and some 450Mhz processing speed. Now frankly this is completely insufficient, even for a Symbian OS. Hence, reading PDF files on your N97 Mini is next to impossible. Unless of course, you have a week’s time to read a 10 page document.

4. Battery Life - The N97 Mini has one of the poorest battery life. You will be extremely lucky to make the phone last 8 hours with regular use. and if you use WiFi constantly, it will drain all power at 3 hrs flat. This is enough of a reason not to buy this phone.

*5. Application Manager - This is slow, crashes a lot and is unstable. You cant open the Application Manager if you have more than 50 apps. Now ask someone using an Android or an iPhone about the no. softwares the person has installed. It will run into hundreds and still the phones work fine.

I havent even tried using a memory card since the phone will surely slow down further. This is an unusable phone. Buy it only when you have 20 grands to throw down a drain. Seriously, if you have 20 grands to spare, donate it to charity! I’m looking for an opportune moment to get rid of this device. Dont make the same mistake I made.
