Nokia X2 unbiased review

After a long gap I am writing any review in mouthshut; very happy to be back here. I have purchased this set on 14th September, 2014.

After using it for 1 month, here goes my review. I will skip the specs of the fone because anybody can find the information on GSMArena or company website, I will just list up the main features and  their Pros and Cons in details along with 10 point performance scale:

1) Build Quality: The fone is strudy enough. I have the black color. Construction is solid and neither very large nor very small to hold, a bit thick though. Volume Rockers and lock button work perfectly. Overall comfortable for daily use.(8/10)

2) Display: 4.3" Nokia clear black display. Color saturation and contrast are good. Viewing angles are ok. The best part is due to the Clear Black technology, "sunlight legibility’ is very good.(8/10)

3) Touch: Touch response is smooth. No’Glove Mode’ though.(7/10)

4) Voice Calling: Clarity of the voice calls are good(if not spectacular) through earpiece though occasionally I experienced slight distortions.(7/10)

5) Signal Reception: Not at all good. My Vodafone network in Kolkata got totally disconnected many times, and to my utter surprise, every time I had to restart my phone to re-gain the tower(the fone supports micro-sim).(5/10)

6) Speaker: Ringtone volume was mediocre, not too low not too high. Vibrator is good.(6)

7) Battery: I would say Very Good. I got approx 1.5 days with regular to heavy use. Stand-by time is excellent too. Previously I used Galaxy Grand, Galaxy S2, Sony Xperia M etc. but this fone’s battery backup is best among them.(9/10)

8) Software interface: Running Nokia X platform with Android 4.3 in background. It has a mix of 3 platforms actually- Fastlane from Nokia Asha series, Home Screen Tiles and App Drawer from Windows Mobile OS and the rest is android. We can easily change the look with Launchers like Go, Apex etc. Slight lags can be visible some times.(7/10)

9) RAM Management: Excellent. In my phone 2X Battery Saver, WhatsApp, Facebook, 365 Scores, 3G Watchdogs etc are running always, but still approx 390-410 mb ram is always free out of the 1gb. I did not use any android fone with this kind of nice memory management. This fone DID NOT HANG for a single second last 1 month.(9/10)

10) Application Compatibility: No Google Services are supported except Gmail and GMaps(only after the 200 mb update which I got just after the purchase) . No Play Store. A few games were force closed though Candy Crush, Temple Run, Subway Surfer etc. ran well. But you will face some compatibility issues as some of the applications are not working correctly and some also refused to start even(solely for the absence of google services).(6/10)

11) Audio Clarity: Now a days it comes with a complete rubbish headphone so u have to use 3rd party earphones. With my good old Creative ep630 I got fantastic sound quality while using poweramp.(8/10)

12) FM Radio: Reception is ok. Sound clarity is nice. No fm recording.(8/10)

13) Connectivity: Bluetooth, 3G and Wi-fi performed reasonably well.(8/10)

14) Storage: 4 GB is actually low at least for hd gaming. You can move some apps to sd card. But that does not help much. External memory card supported.(7/10)

15) Dual sim: Sim management is good. Though I use just one sim. Anyway, I have no complain here.(8/10)

16) Camera: This is to some extent disappointment for me. 5 mp camera does not capture good images even sometimes in daylight. Low light photography is even worse. Flash does not help that much. 720p video recording is mediocre, details are on the lower side. In fone display, images will look good, but if u transfer them to desktop, they will lose their details. I have used Lumia 630(single sim) for some days(both fones are in 8-9k price range), and it has much much better 5mp cam than x2.(6/10)

As for the price(i bought from kolkata for 8200/-), fone is good. But it has some drawbacks. If you can extend the budget for 1.5-2k, better go for Xperia M(single sim) though it is a bit smaller considering the display size. Actually in 8-9k price range, it is hard to find a very good android fone as far my experience goes. Anyway, on the whole, X2 is a mixed bag for me. I wont’highly recommend’ this product, but it is ok considering the price.
