Nor Khill translates to House of Jewels. This hotel was actually a guest houe built by the King of Sikkim, where many dignitries have stayed, so staying there is like being a part of something in history.
Its a relatively small hotel only 32 rooms but all the rooms are really well done in traditional style. The dragon motifs in amazing red colour and flaming golden form the base of most of the designs. We were in Gangtok on the 30th of Dec 2005, someone in Silliguri had booked us in another hotel but our local cabbie suggested Nor Khill. We werent expecting a room at that time of the year but to our surprise there was one. The warmth of the lobby and the welcome drink of Cherry Brandy had us hoping we could stay there and it happened.
The bath tub in the bathroom was a typical stand alone white one from the yesteryears and the supply of taped hot water in the winter was awesome.
The service was prompt, courteous and warm. The main lobby is all done up in wood and a big grand piano in the center transforms you to another time.
It is a quiet place, can see the Kanchenjuna and we enjoyed an outdoor breakfast in the morning
Definately a hotel I am planning to visit again.
