The funniest film I have seen this year

Being very far behind in the UK, I already own the DVD of Not Another Teen Movie, out in the USA before it was here in the cinema.

I can definitely recommend this film. Not a deep and meaningful storyline so not really one to take someone on a romantic date but plenty of laughs all the way through.

Before I start on the storyline I have to mention the cast. You will not recognise anyone in this films, with the exception of Mr T who has the one scene. A cast of complete fresh faces which all do very well in their parts.

The film is set in John Hughes high school where you will find your typical teens (which are all labelled on the DVD cover);

The Popular Jock (Jake Wyler)

Played by Chris Evans (no, not the ginger one). This is the bloke everyone loves, including himself.

The Cocky Blond Guy (Austin)

The bloke who is always right and makes sure that everyone knows it.

The Pretty Ugly Girl (Janey Briggs)

The ugly duckling that turns into the swan

The Nasty Cheerleader (Priscilla)

Head cheerleader who hates everyone prettier than her

The Obsessed Best Friend (Ricky)

Janey’s best friends who is in love with her

The Beautiful Weirdo (Les)

Strange bloke who hangs around filming everything

The Token Black Guy (Malik)

Who apparently has got to be in every film!

The Foreign Exchange Student (Areola)

The excuse to have nudity in the film

The Cruellest Girl (Catherine)

The pretty but evil girl who spoils everything

The Fat Stupid guy (Reggie Ray)

A big bloke with little intellect.

The Desperate Virgin – The Wannabe - The Sensitive Guy

Group who hang around trying to look cool

The Perfect Girl (Amanda Becker)

Object of desire for the desperate virgin

The story is basically ripped off from other films, which is what makes it so funny! It’s another Scary Movie but instead of using the scary films they have used American Pie/American Beauty/Cruel Intentions etc. There are references to loads of films, it’s fun trying to spot them all. The Cocky Blond Guy makes a bet with The Popular Jock. Jake has to make The Pretty Ugly Girl into prom queen.

That is really the basis of the whole film, not too much of a story but it’s not the story you want to watch this film for. It’s the take off’s from other films. Obviously all teen movies have these characters, just not to the extreme that they are played in this film.

The soundtrack to this film is mostly eighties songs worked around a bit, made a bit heavier etc. There’s a great version of 99 Red Balloons and Marilyn Manson does his version of Tainted Love which is the best song in the film.

The DVD has loads of extras including Mansons video of Tainted Love, 18 deleted scenes, the original ending, a quiz, behind the scenes and your usual commentary and cast bios.

I haven’t seen the English version of this film so there may be quite a few bits cut out. I would suggest if you have a dvd player that will play American discs you get your friends to give you a couple of quid and buy it rather than go to the cinema – saves them money and gains you a dvd!

This film is NOT for kids. There’s a lot of swearing, nudity and crude humour so don’t show it to your grandparents either. For a group trip to the cinema it’s perfect though and you’ll be laughing all the way through.
