The title itself is a nice slap to the Indian politicians. There was an attempt to belittle CAG by referring to him as "just an accountant" by some politicians. This book is a good way to give it back. Read the book, it gives back to many people, and I am sure most Indians will enjoy that. More bureaucrats should come out like Vinod Rai has, in forms of books to save India from we all know what.
Revolves totally around the upper echelons of power(executive & bureaucracy). Books makes us to feel that it is the counsel of the author trying to justify what all he did(however as far as I am concerned he was under his mandate). Throws the picture of the implications of transparency and also makes the readers feel that transparency takes time to digest.
My advice to readers is that dont take this book with a mindset of political affiliation. After all calling a spade a spade doesnt come very easily. Interesting fact is that he clearly projects the people representatives as able administrators and clears the myth that people representatives are not just there to loot. Policy formulation and inter - ministry functioning is clearly shown.
I have developed a strong feeling after reading this book that CAG has to be reinforced and its stature has to be lifted from beyond only accounting. Also my personal feeling is that media policy of CAG has to be once again reformed or strengthened.
On the whole the author succeeded in his attempt. As he says his revelations will not weaken the government but will only strengthen it in a long run.
Totally for a awakened citizenry and not for croaking frogs.
