The menthol knocks you out!

You know, when I was a teenager, back in 19whatever, I remember all these television commercials for Noxema face wash. So, wanting to be right up with the times, I rushed out and bought the little blue jar.

When you first open the jar, you get a very strong aroma of menthol hitting you in the face. (Strong enough to actually bring tears to your eyes!)

So, I got passed the strong smell and proceeded to do just as the television models did. I dabbed two fingers into the jar and smoothed it all over my face.(Being careful to keep it out of my eyes and nose!) I gently rubbed it in with small circular motions and then filled my sink with warm water, and began splashing water on my face to remove the Noxema cream, and hopefully all the dirt and excess oil.

It felt cool on my skin and I thought to myself, ’’Wow, this stuff feels nice’’. It did take all traces of face make-up off and left my skin with a glowing feeling.

I went to bed just knowing that tomorrow my face would be bright and smooth and blemish free. And clean!

8 A.M. approaches, I awaken to get ready for school and to my horror, for some reason, I had broken out in a bunch of yukky pimples.

I thought nothing of it and I went on with my day.

That night, I went through the same regime with the Noxema. Went to bed and lo and behold, MORE PIMPLES when I woke up!!

For me, Noxema face wash only clogged my pores, it didn’t do as promised.

This menthol based, facial cleanser had actually made me break out into about 2 dozen ugly blemishes!

It appears that the cold cream base, is NOT good for every type of skin. On a person like me (Having large pores) the Noxema became embedded in the pores and turned into little pimples.

Needless to say, I discontinued use then and there and never tried it again.....until recently.

I decided to give it another chance 35 years later. I followed the same directions and again awakened with pimples from clogged pores.

It appears that the only thing that has changed in 35 years is that the jar went from blue glass, to blue plastic.

I would not recommend Noxema face wash to anyone with sensitive skin or large pores. Although, as I said, it did wash away all residue from the make-up, I wasn’t right for me.
