I have tried several mp3 players as well, but the sleek interface of WinAmp got me! Actually, it was between a player called Sonique and WinAmp. I must confess, Sonique looked a sight better than WinAmp, interface-wise, but there were some problems I detected with Sonique.
It started hanging up on me for silly reasons, and that was it...out went Sonique and in came WinAmp.
It is so easy to operate it, as it resembles a real-life cd player, complete with buttons, and equalisers, flashy lights and all!
It looks so much like a real player (pun not intended!), and with the million ’’skins’’ that you can download for it, WinAmp looks as cool as you want it to!! By now, I guess you know what a skin is; if you do, skip the next bit...else read the next bit.
SKINS:
WinAmp, and several other mp3 players too, such as Windows Media Player, support something called skins. This just means that you can change the way WinAmp looks...much like the way we change our shirts!
You could have a nice picture of Britney across the player, or some neat colourful graphics with nice looking buttons etc. You could also have your WinAmp look like a SONY player or an AIWA. My favourite one, however, is BLUE STEEL. It is a neat skin. Check out https://winamp.com, https://winamp-skins.com and https://1001winampskins.com for more skins. If you are the innovative kind, you could also use Skin creating software to create your own skins and have your WinAmp looking the way you want it!
OTHER FEATURES of WINAMP:
Besides playing music, which everyone has written about, WinAmp can be used to even play a car-racing game (check out this plugin at the following URL: https://winamp.com/plugins/detail.jhtml?componentId=26623). There are several plug-ins present for WinAmp that allow you to customize several things. There is one such plug-in that lets a song fade into the next one. Another plug-in, lets you customise the position of the speakers by dragging two images of speakers on the screen. The sound automatically changes based on the positioning of these ’virtual’ speakers. Yet another plug-in makes a sizzling dancer appear on your screen and dance away. WinAmp contains several such plug-ins that are useful and amazing. They add a lot of functionality to an already wonderful piece of software.
All said, WinAmp is a great player...with several features, and an easy-to-use interface (Even my 3 year old daughter knows how to start and stop it!).
