’’NYPD Blue’’ is a true hybrid, combining hardcore entertainment (in the form of intriguing cases) and human drama (the lives of the cops themselves and the myriad NYC people they meet during the course of their ’’investigations’’). An hour long feast for the eyes, with it’s excellent production quality and unique ’’style’’, NYPD Blue is one of the brainier, one-hour long, ’’adult’’ serials out on Star World.
The show’s attention to detail (scruffy interrogations rooms, location shoots in non-descriptive locations, realistic plots, etc) and script-writing (strong characterizations, some of the best amateur actors, etc) pay off for the viewer. The main characters - cops working together in one station - have a satisfying depth of characters. Several supporting cast members also make regular appearances, such as characters’ families, laywers, etc. All in all, a complex and entertaining drama.
