I am from Raipur and got an oppurtunity to go to Calcutta for a conference. Whenever I go to any place I try to get some local taste and I got the oppurtunity when a local friend suggested Oh! Calcutta. It is from the same chain that has Mainland China, so I was optimistic about the place.
We went for lunch on the very last day of my stay. It is in a building that has lots of shops still to fill up, so it was quiet as against the hum-drum of Calcutta. Before we(’we’ were 6)were entering we were talking about how restaurants have rectangular tables where the person at one end is not able to chat with the one at the other end. So imagine our surprise when we saw round tables along with rectangular tables! The ambience of the place is excellent with widely spaced tables and comfortable chairs. With light music playing in the background and excellent staff hovering over you, you can just talk and eat.
The food was ordered by by local friends who ordered Mocha, aloo posto, pabda fish and daab chingri among others. They were helpfully guided by the staff, so I guess even if you dont have any local friends you will manage with the best of the food. The food is not very oily and every dish has a separate flavour. Of course, the food is slightly sweeter as bengali food is and one of our friends from hyderabad was missing the spices! The portions were decent enough and for the quality and taste the cost was just fine
Except for the slight wait in the beginning the food came at regular intervals. However we were there before 1 and by the time we were leaving the place was full and I thought they could do with more personnel.
Had a great time there and after the flop show at a few other places, it was a great ending to my trip!
