Early December, I attended an invitation for a Buffet lunch in Oh Calcutta!, Delhi. Being a Bong I’ve heard about the restaurant but didn’t get a chance to be there. What I heard about the place was that it was a highly placed restaurant and a person like me with modest pocket would not afford it. This invitation was a pleasant surprise.
As far as we Bengali’s are concerned our food is typically to be cooked in home and the place for spoons and forks in Bengali cuisines are limited hence a restaurant for Bengali food is a place for people who love to have the taste of the cuisine and are unable to cook at home.
The buffet consisted of all Bengali delicacies like Koshan Mangsho(Mutton, slightly spicy with a very thick red gravy), Maacher Jhaal(Mustard Fish), Mustard Prawn and in the Vegetarian side it had boasted of Cholar Daal(Chana Dal), Begun Bhaja(Brinja Fry) and other common items with rice and puri(Luchi in Bengali).
It had some Bengali sweets also coupled with ice creams and the starters bosted of Fish Chops etc.
One the whole the Restaurant has a good ambience and the food is good not great, but those who want Bengali cuisines would find it interesting and great. I attended the buffet hence I can’t comment on the efficiency of the table service.
Also who want to visit the place during lunch time weekdays may have to face problems for parking their cars as due to office going public the vehicle parking are up to the brim.
