Love Roller Coasters? Then you'll love Cedar Poin

My family and I went to Cedar Point in June of this year (01). We had a really wonderful time. The price is right (some theme parks are charging up to 60.00 now days), and locally you can get Pepsi cans for 10.00 off the admission price. Price per ticket I believe was around 40.00 per adult rate at age 7 and up. The park is located in Sandusky, Ohio about an hour outside of Toledo. And Toledo is where my husband’s family lives. We went there for vacation this year. The drive to Cedar Point from Toledo was very pleasant, not to far away, making it an easy day trip.

Our kids had so much fun! My 7 year old rode everything the park would allow him to ride. The roller coasters, the water rides, car rides, and sky rides. You name it and we rode it. The park has the routine ’’measuring sticks’’ to be sure small children can ride the rides.   But we also learned that my son was just below the “mark” on one of the water rides, but with a pair of sandal’s he was just fine. He had actually ridden the water ride once, but took his sandals off the second time and didn’t make it through. So from that point forward, he wore his sandals.

My husband rode the new Millennium Force; you know the one with the 90-foot drop at 60 miles per hour. I chose not to ride this one. But, he had a ball on it. We rode several other roller coasters and there are many. Cedar Point is famous for their roller coasters! Actually it is there trademark. (And being arthritic I had to be very careful with which rides I chose to ride, didn’t need a hop replacement in Ohio that’s for sure!)

We really enjoyed all the water rides the best. We took swimsuits and changed into them and spent several hours riding and re-riding all the water rides. We enjoyed getting wet because it kept us cool!

Towels are good things to have as well. A bag to take your wet clothes home is a bad idea either.

Cedar Point offers various shows that are really good in which there is singing and dancing. There is a game arena where you can play games and win prizes. The kids really love this; the parents will go broke though because most of the games are set up like the games at the county fair or state fair just without the people calling out to you, “come play, come play.” You know how those fair people are, always trying to get you spend a buck or two. And of course it is how they make their living. But at Cedar Point, we didn’t have that problem.

The food was not badly priced either and found it to be rather good. There were many places to get quick bites to eat or you could go inside restaurants and sit down and be waited on! There were all sorts of places to get drinks and junk food such as the loved cotton candy and candied apples as well as the traditional burgers and fries, hotdogs, chilidogs, (you know the good junk food.)

The ’’River Boat Ride’’ and ’’The Train’’ were just as rewarding as in any amusement park. These two are my personal favorites because you can relax for a bit and catch your breath. The “Train Ride goes around the park, but stops at the half way point where you get off. The ’’Old Timer Cars’’ were there as well and the kids really got a kick out of driving us parents around. Which we didn’t complain? It was interesting letting the kids drive me around for a change. And the best part, I didn’t have to pay for the insurance!

You should wear clothing that will dry quickly or do like we did and take a change of swimwear. You can rent lockers for the day, but I recommend renting the ones closet to the water rides, although there are some available when you first enter the park.

Wear good shoes, but keep in mind socks will get wet and this may cause blisters. Swimwear shoes are the best shoe of choice I think. Drink plenty of fluids. You can purchase theme park cups and get them refilled through out the day, which is much cheaper in the long run and gives your child a token from the park. (Hint, hint, you can also use this cup later on when it is time to go and the kids are wanting something else to take home, remind them they already have a wonderful cup, with 2 sides even and they can have it for a long time to come.) We paid $4.50 for the 2 sided cup with straws and the refills were 1.50 each refill. At the time we were there the cups were green on one side and purple on the other.

We went on a Wednesday and the park was not even half full. The $7.00 charge to park was a little steep I thought. There was parking for the handicap but no discount on the parking fee. I cannot tell you about any of the motels/hotels or local restaurants because we did not stay in any or eat there locally. We went back to Toledo with the in laws.

There is a lot of walking, but there are shaded areas that have benches where you can sit and rest. It was interesting to see the roller coasters up close, to see all the turns and twists and then realize you were going to ride or ’’Wow I rode that!’’ Yep, you can walk right underneath some of the roller coasters. Which was also a little scary.

We had a wonderful time and would go back again. I recommend Cedar Point to those of you who may be traveling to Ohio. It’s a great place to visit with lots to do for all ages. There was even a “Kiddy” section for the little ones. And there was a sand box area for the little ones as well.

Oh one other thing about the water rides, if for some reason you think that you can ride them without getting wet, think again. Cedar Point’s water rides are designed to get you wet. I guarantee it!

So the next time you are in the area of Cedar Point, give them a try.

I hope this has helped in some kind of way.

God Bless!
