I have been a regular user of ola and uber for more than a year now. I thought this is the right time to give review:
App: app is user friendly. But sometimes cab shown available will be be shown unavailable if we try to book. It uses ur GPS to find ur exact location, and they made this app to be unusable if u dont give switch on the gps. This could have been avioded.
Cab availabiliy: now they have more cabs attached to them.i heard that they have got 18000 cabs in chennai alone. So the cab is available almost all the time if you are in their location limit. Wait time also is very less.
When u dont have cab, u can still chose auto but beware some auto guys demand for higher charger than meter.
Charging: this is the biggest factor that has made me to not to prefer ola. When u compare their base price with uber who is their competiter, ola price is double. And their price per km is also higher than uber. The most irritating part of them is peak hour charges. Sometimes it goes upto x2.2 which is higher than airport taxi charges. Last week I have gone to mayajaal multiplex from my area. While going I took ola who charged me 325 but while coming I took uber who charged me just 260. Moreover there were two toll gates to mayajaal, and one toll gate is free and other one is 24 rupees. But ola charged me 46 rupees for toll alone. This is absolutely rediculous.
Verdict: go for it only if u dont have any other option. Instead of giving them the huge peak hour charge, it is better to go in a auto or uber who does not charge peak hour very often.
