What ails you? Be it a cold or a cough, a slight fever or heartbreak or new love, or just a fun match on TV with some friends by your side, The Monk is your one true companion. Without any sort of marketing and through word of mouth alone Old Monk is easily the best rum in India.
The taste is sweet, with hints of spices like cinnamon and vanilla. It is a rich taste, with a very strong fuminess that will make you cough and sneeze if you drink it neat for the first time. It has a slight burn while going down, but a smooth, slightly oily feel to it and a strong finish. I woudn’t call it smooth, as it does have an afterburn. But once you’re used to it, you’ll find it to be rather pleasant and almost smooth.
You can do just about anything with Old Monk. You can mix it with coke, you can mix it with water, you can have it over ice, you can have it neat. It doesn’t taste particularly good with fruit drinks though.
You can make desserts with it, you can use it to flambe things, you can make rum cake, you can drink it neat with a little lemon to fight the cold, you can drink it warm with a dash of pepper, you can do anything you want! This is the best rum available in India.
I personally prefer it neat in winters and monsoons, and if I must drink in the summer I prefer it with iced water(not ice).
