Being new to Delhi and living very close to Olympia Gym, GK-II, I decided to join up, desperate to lose some weight.
One advice I would like to give prospective customers of gyms is to pay a visit to the gym during the time slot that you plan to go in. Since I am working, the only time I can go to the gym is in the morning. Unfortunately, I had visited the place in the afternoon and was quite impressed by the no. of equipment they had. I decided to pay up the 8500/- (approx) per quarter fee (including consultation).
The cardio-vascular section has mainly 3 types of equipment - treadmills, crosstrainers and cycles. In the morning, there is just not enough equipment as the number of customers is too high. One has to wait for about 10 minutes to get a turn. Having to wait for a turn, that too before office hours, is extremely painful.
To be fair, the equipment are in decent condition, the toilets are clean and they serve water/lemon juice in quite hygienic surroundings.
The consultation is very disappointing. A diet chart is give to you - most of the suggested food is stuff that you get to buy in the gym. After the initial consultation, one is supposed to return for consultation every 15 days. However, this is difficult as the 2 counselors are just too busy. After waiting twice for 10-15 mins each, I just gave up trying to meet them. The Rs.1000/- you spend on consultation is a waste.
I was also very disappointed by the exercises section. There are 2 trainers in this section - one female and a male. I was not in the least happy with the female one. She spent most of her time chatting with the DJ rather than doing any serious training. During the month that I went to her, most of the days she only made me do some light floor exercises for about 10-15 mins rather than the 20 minutes abs that I was supposed to do. Her style of training is to tell you what to do and go back and chat with the DJ. In case you have not understood what exercise she wants you to do, she will get very impatient with you. She will definitely not stand and see what you are doing and whether you are doing it right. After you have finished, you have to either call her or lie down and wait for her to remember that she is actually training you. Rather, the male trainer is quite good. He trained me for only one day (when the lady was absent) and gave me proper attention while I was doing my exercises, correcting my mistakes.
All in all, I consider my money wasted. I certainly havent lost weight and have stopped going to the gym.
