There are chants and there are chants. But when you have a singer of the stature of Jagjit Singh chanting, then you have to sit up and meditate. There is total bliss from the word go. The entire cassette has just one word “OM”. But Jagjit Singh’s deep voice leads you to tranquility and a sense of light mindedness.
I agree with the other reviewer that the accompanying tanpura is slightly louder than is necessary. But since I am a great fan of Jagjit Singh I can be accused of overlooking these minor irritants.
The best part is that this cassette does not resort to gimmicks like dholaks or techno beats in the background which would have defeated the total purpose of the album.
Do make it a point to listen to this cassette for a very different avatar of Jagjit Singh, one of the best voices in the country.
(I know that this is a very short review by standards here, but I think all that needs to be said has been said, so that would have to be looked in context)
