OSO- O SHUT OFF

Om Shanti Om…you know what OSO means???

O SHUT Off!!!

Shahrukh died just once in the movie…but I died every second every moment of the film. It’s loud, ludicrous utter non sense. It feels like one long spoof of the Indian film industry that stretches on and on and on till all your patience cool sense is gone.

I was still basking in the glory of watching ‘Chak De’ but SRK you’ve fallen again from my grace.

The story starts in the 70s when SRK or Om Makhija is a struggling junior artist. Pappu played by Shreyash is his adorable friend. Om is in love with the beautiful rising star Shantipriya (Deepika Padukone) who is secretly married to Mukesh the dashing producer played by Arjun Rampal.

Thus the movie painfully stretches on seeming to be at times a hotch potch between a Ekta Kapoor soap opera and a musical. Visually the movie is colorful and a delight but in script it has borrowed from several movies.

I really did not understand why Mukesh had to kill his pregnant wife, Shantipriya in such a dramatic fashion on the sets of Om Shanti Om.

Then Om had to return ala Hrithik style in Kaho naa Pyar Hai, as Om Kapoor or ‘OK’. Even Shanti has a lookalike in Sandy(Deepika) in 90s-2000s.

But it is ultimately left to the specter Shantipriya who avenges her death. Have you seen ‘What Lies Beneath’?

Shahrukh’s body looks great but the angular look of his face does not suit him. Deepika is a visual treat. Her doe eyes will drown anyone. At times she looks like Waheeda Rehman. But Deepika was a sportswoman before she became a model so dancing needs more grace and less physical prowess.

None of the characters are suitably etched out. The music is also so so…Diwali went cold this time. Just drink Deepika’s beauty…that’s all the movie has and Shahrukh…your real match is Kajol as she appeared in the item no.  By the way Tabu looked wow!!!

By the way speaking of spoofs and musicals…Farah go see ‘Chicago’ or ‘Moulin Rouge’ and the Scary Movie series.
