Disappointing.. Pls use SRK in better films

Farah Khan clan seem to think very firmly that anything related with SRK is successful. For Sajid too in his film Hey babby used Srk and in the end gave message - love u srk.  Well SRK is indeed a masterclass but he cannot everytime turn tables around. And so it would be better if filmakers start making better films with logic and thought than making films for actors.propelled by hype and music. The Movie Om shanti om disappoints sadly as a lot more was expected from the film. This movie had every chance to make itself the best - but as it turns out, it was just an ordinary display caused by immature direction, novice screenplay and overconfident film unit relying too much on SRK.

SRK does his best to make the movie work. he delivers nice dialogues, loves, dances, dies, gets reborn and again acts, loves, dances, fights . But he cannot save the fact that the movie is very poorly done and doesnt make the viewer feel - hey here a good well made movie.

Ok before I get into details of why I felt this was average, let me highlights the positives from the movie. Lot of them no doubt like great music, great dances, great starcast, a song with so many stars, fun, glamour and lots and lots of publicity. SRK does a great job, Deepika is lovely and Shreyas does a brilliant act. Some good dialogues, fragments of good comedy. Some scenes are really funny. The filmfare awards part is awesome comedy. The allstars song is a very nice, glamorous and enchanting number . Deepika looks good, acts pretty well. These factors work in favor of the movie and it can still do well at box office riding on these plus the heavy publicity.

Sometimes like it may seem in this case, filmmakers get away with poor films riding on such positive factors plus the publicity part- one could see the cast in every program on TV,  from judging dance/singing shows to news channels telling the audience how novel their film is.  That part is good but even some fraction of all that effort put in publicity should also be put on getting logic right, getting story right, getting the flow right, making sure all actors are well utilized. This is very unfair of the filmmakers to always think that the mass audience will sail the movie through based on publicity, songs, dance and hype. They should work on the direction and movie.

The film makes fun of the fact that Indian married women put sindoor as a mark of their status. The film tries to show that today’s girls cannot say simple hindi lines. What are the directors thinking here?

Arjun Rampal is wasted in the movie. He has great personality but is not used well and he gets very litlle part to play and that too in poorly directed scenes.  Kiron Kher almost always overacts so one cant blame her to overplay her part again and do what she is used to.

SRK controls almost all the scenes in the movie . he is a bit of overdose in the film as he is present in all the scenes of the movie. Even if the scenes are not picturised on him, he is still there standing in a corner listening or dancing separately. It almost seems as if he is letting them speak or not - as is evident in the scenes like where he is chatting with the older version of Arjun Rampal in a restaurant or when he is talking to his mom, friend. They get one line, he interrupts, then speaks his dialogues, then again speaks then finishes. This is unfair on other actors and shows how poor the direction is.

The second half of the film is purely nonsense.  The flow seems abrupt and stuffed and director has assumed a lot that audiences wont mind and will figure out logic in their own minds.

Anyway, the film is made and thrusted on us like a diwali must see. so we do see it. It does entertain due to song and dance and diwali factors, but fails as a movie.

All in all this is an average output and very sad for the movie industry to have such overconfident film units. Come on masses, pls make this film a superhit too, so that all filmmakers keep thinking that audiences are stupid. and they can get away with all the time.
