Well Mr.Bharadwaj, you seem to be achieving perfection when adapting Shakespears plays. To adapt a story like Othello and put it in the scenario of U.P is no mean task. And Mr.Bharadwaj does this task with aplomb!!!!!!He proves that Maqbool was not fluke!Well in any case people who still do not know the story(I dont how many are there now)it is about a gangleader(Omkara) in the hinterland of Uttar Pradesh(played by Ajay Devgan) who falls in love with Dolly Mishra(played by Kareena) and falls in the trap laid by one of his gang members Langda Tyagi(Aapna Saif) and kills his wife and in the end kills himself when he realises his mistake. The story is as simple as that!!!!!!!No, it is not that simple as it is layered with jealousy and vice.Cinematography is BRILLIANT!!!There are some really hard hitting scenes in the film whose impact is aggravated due to the use of expletives throughout the movie. For those who survive on the diet of Yash Chopra and Karan Johars love stories this film is a strict no no.This film for the audience who still think that Naseer-Shabana-Smita created the golden period of Indian Cinema in the early eighties and swears by the name of govind nihalani and shyam benegal. As far as performances go Ajay sleepwalks through the title role. There is no revelation though as he has played similar characters in the past in Company, Zakhm, Apaharan.Kareena has nothing to do in the film .However she looks beautiful without make up as looks the part.SAIF-what a tremendous progress this actor has made from playing the chocolate hero. The range that he has been displaying in recent times-Kal ho na ho, Hum Tum, Parineeta, Being Cyrus would be the envy of actors like Shahrukh who are still trapped in the boring lover boy roles.Konkona Sen gets the most powerful scenes in the film and in the climax too, in fact she along with Saif enact some of the most difficult scenes in recent hindi films with a lot of power and conviction.Bipasha is very effective and is a treat to watch specially since her item numbers are good to hear.Vivek does not have many scenes and is not convincing in the few scenes that has scope.Naseer is a complete wastage. But the new actor Deepak(who is about to marry kareena in the beginning) is the surprise package.Music is the best that we have heard this year.Vishal way to go!!!!!!Vishal is slowly acheiving the status of directors like Sanjay leela Bhansali whose every film is a treat to watch.
