Well after reading a lot of reviews.. and a few good ones indeed, I decided to write one.
Before watching the movie, one thing should be made clear.. If u appreciate Karan Johar and Yashraj brand of cinema, this ones definitely not for you.
Starting with the plot, which is adapted from Shakespeares great work Othello. The plot revolves around universal emotions of ambition, jealousy, love and suspicion, hence it was not at all difficult to Indianize a western work.
The plot is extremely well crafted and portrays all the emotions brilliantly. Vishals screenplay is fantastic, however Ajay and Kareenas story seems half baked initially.. but the later portions overshadow it. The story starts off well and is gripping throughout. Some people may complain about the language used in the film but guys if u want reality, accept it in its true form.
Though the movie is based in UP, the dialect spoken by the characters seems to be more of Rajasthan.
Talking bout the performances.. Ajay Devgan is topnotch as ever. He justifies his selection for the title role as he portrays emotions of love, jealousy, anger and dilemma with perfection. Watch the climax scene after he kills Dolly(kareena).
Kareenas performance is a complete surprise. She rises above average and delivers a very good performance. As Dolly, she excellently portrays the emotion of being in love and innocence.
Viveik Oberoi doesnt get much to perform but still he makes his presence felt. Not much to write about.
Konkona Sensharma shines in a relatively brief roles. From playing urban youth in films like Page 3, Mixed doubles and Yun hota to..... she really adapts well to the role of a rural UP woman and delivers a noteworthy performance.
Bipasha has a very brief role but she shines nevertheless. She looks gorgeous and that does half her job.
The man who steals the show is Langda Tyagi played by Saif Ali Khan.... This man plays negative roles as effortlessly as he plays the cool dude( Remember Ek haseena thi and Kya kehna).
He really walks through with a well crafted role which is played with excellence.
Music is in sync with the mood of the film. Tracks like Omkara, Naina thug lenge, and O saathi re are brilliant compositions and are rich in lyrical value, rendered by the respective singers effectively.
Overall, Vishal has proved yet again that he is a master storyteller, who can not only adapt a story well but also present it in the most convincing fashion. Kudos vishal...
