Considering that this movie ISNOT a musical and the director has no (intentional) back up plans to rake in money via audio sales, the music is VERY GOOD. Very welcoming to listen to pure Indian instruments after long.
Thanks to the UP Mafia backdrop in which the movie is set, Vishal Bharadwaj had to do justice with the earthy music to compliment the overall look-feel of the movie.
The music is a refreshing change from the current trend. There arent any catchy numbers and none of the songs can help u wriggle in a Disc/pub. No ones going to humm these songs..till some dude does the daring bit to mix some dance numbers with techno or house stuff.
Why write a review on this?
The lyrics are excellent, the rich hindi expressions are very good and the analogies drawn are remarkable. Song by song analysis is a little boring but thats the way I can project the lyrics and the lines that I liked the most.
Laakad jal ke: This is too slow. It must be a background song, and should be watchablealong with the movie. The touch is that of "Chaai chapa chaai chaapa ke chaai"
Naino: Beautiful https://lyrics. All about characterisitcs of eyes and this line surely catches you " Nainon ko to dasne ka chaska laga re.. naino ka zeher nasheela re...""
Namak: "Bheetar bheetar aag lage, baat karoon to sek lage". This is the first line of the song and it ends with " jABAAN PE LAGA RE NAMAK ISSAK KA, TERE ISSAK KA".
Have not come across such usage of folk language in commercial movies in recent times. Too rustic for the current Indian taste and appluase for Vishal to dare this.
- Omkara-Title Song: This we have seen in the recent promos and it surely is hummable than the others. The line that I like the most is: "Maathe par trishul ke jaise teen teen bal padte hain".
Character sketching too the fullest! And Ajay devgun fits to the description aptly.
- Beedi:
"Beedi jalayile jigar se piya..jigar ma badi aag hai".....Ja Padosi ke chulhe se aag layile.
This song will come close to what Shilpa Shetty did with "UP Bihar lootne" in Shool. But wont be able to beat that. Bipasha Basu doesnto come close to Shipas latkas and thumkas. The double meaning comes across starkingly..and the UP, Bihar folks are sure to like it and will be thye dance numbers for the rural weddings to come.
Remix kings must be eying for this song. We all know.. "Babu Ji zara dheere chalo" from DUS was a prefered number with its remix version.
The tragedy of Omkara: This instrumental piece will be the heart of the movie and the chorus in the background looks inspired by the "Govinda Govinda " track from Sarkar"
Jaag jaa: Ths is a sweet lullaby and the use of words adheres to the folk style for the whole movie. One wont CHOOSE to play it anytime.
All in all, the lyrics are definitely something to watch out for. Lastly I would like to mention that, some music are consumer driven while some are movie driven. And this is album is surely in the latter category.
