Parallel Life and Least Entertainment

I remember those days of Mumbai when going to any chinese restuarant with my friend, we would ask one by two of everything. The simple logic was we can get more quantity than we get in "one full" in the similar amount. Hearing the name of movie’One by two’ brought me of many nostalgia of my loving city. What it showed was some part of beautiful mumbai and its life style but coming down in its expectation and may be just one by two of expected entertaiment.

With many struggling and flops movie around his name, Abhay Deol had given his memorable performance in Zindagi Na Mila Dobara. He has shorter but precise role in Raanjhana. This time, with One By Two, and no other well known actors behind him, he had a role to play being the lead actor in movie as "Amit Sharma".

Plot

Abhay Deol as Amit Sharma is in sad phase of his life after breaking up his long relationship with Radhika. He is neither able to concentrate in his career nor able to enjoy his life. His music composed, his songs, his job, none of them could give him pleasure nor they could help anyway in saving his relation. His two friends from class time, they try to console him but couldn’t. He is still in the way to convince Radhika and get her back. On the other hand, Preeti Desai as Samara Patel, after being ignored for Dance program by her Dancing school instructor(Yudhistir Urs) goes to dancing show ’Dance Watch. Amit finds some link between Radhika and the show’Dance Watch’. In his attempts to make the show flop, Samara also gets affected. The movie gets ahead in showing two different parts of parallel life. Yeah, parallel because they hardly meet each other though the property of parallelism keeps them linking and as assumption of mathematicians regarding Parallel line meeting at infinity, they finally get to meet before climax.

My Views

If I had to say anything about this movie, it would be the story line. The concept of story is totally new. Never ever before in Indian Movies, you might have seen hardly such movie where Actor and Actress meet only in last moment.(I am not talking about Story like of’Sirf Tum’ though). One by two doesn’t have any chemistry between lead actors Abhay Deol and Preeti Desai, but yeah they have their own life. So Story goes ahead showing their own life, their problems, their dreams and their failures. But neither they know about each other nor they were aware about presence of each other till the last 20 minutes.  It was a unique experience to see such movie though I myself was expecting some chemistry and romance between two people. The Story of Devika Bhagat comes with unique thoughts that resembles some part of youth in mumbai, yet it is set to go unnoticed and there is high chance of movie to flop commercially also.

Abhay Deol is the centre of attraction in most part of the movie. While first half is shared by both Abhay and Preeti, the half of second half is dominated by Abhay Deol and preeti has nothing to do there until the movie reaches last 30 minutes. The first half is technically boring though it has some good music. . Abhay Deol tries to impress with his comedy, but most of the half is filled up with their relationship problems and storys that could have made better. As I was watching the movie, right from the half an hour of movie, I could see people moving out of theater. It peaks up in last half an hour, but neither it is so convincing enough to give last smile to viewers.

Preeti puts some good mark of her dance in the movie, but they are again not so impressive. Regarding the Dance Show’Dance Watch’ hosted, we could have at least expected some good choreography, but sadly, it could give no such good step as we can see in TV Reality show itself.

The Cast Performance of Movie are fine up to some extent. Rati Agnihotri as Samara’s mother plays well. Darshan Jariwala as Police officer and mama’s of Amit has few good role. Tahir Bahsin as friend of Amit is impressive with his role and is able to give some comedy while Udhistir Urs as boy friend of Samran has very few role. Abhay Deol and Preeti Desai have played well, yet their effort can’t save movie because of weak story line and boredom that is created in different phase of movie.

You will not be able to enjoy the movie in theater. Skip it. More ever, even if it comes to tv box, the 2 hours 20 minutes movie might be too long to complete it in one sitting.

My rating 1.5 out of 5
