Well, I was compelled, forced, begged, threatened, cajoled, into buying this book by . you guess . my inner self. That too because of Chetan Bhagat’s(the author) first book- Five point someone. which I think is a great book. Something that you immediately identify with. Something that you cant put down until you finish, Hold on, this is not a review of fivepoint. it is the review of the second book of Chetan Bhagat - One night @ the call centre.
Story is about 6 people who work at a same bay in Connexions - A Gurgaon based call centre. The entire story is about happenings of one night. Each of the book’s characters have their own complications in life and to add to their misery is their credit hogging, good for nothing boss - Bakshi. The jargons that he uses - you can actually relate it some of guys you come across in day to day working life.
As their frustrations reach a peak high, they are faced with a life threatning situation. Then suddenly out of the blue - there is a call from GOD. Yes you read it right - GOD. God shows them a path which they take to make their lives better. Yes all this happens in one night.
This book is told from the view point of Shyam - one of those six. The narrative is in very easy to understand english - No difficult proverbs - That is becoming Chetan Bhagat’s style. This book also grips you right from the first page. Could not put it down once I started it. So one night gone.
However there is one point on which the book is a let down - ending. Too filmy. Come on - You and your colleague dont slap your boss - even if he happens to be a prick like Bakshi. may be author could have made the end more believable.
This however should not take the credit away. The book is definitely a one time read. Go on . You will enjoy it.
