Low cost Home Theatre I was looking to build for myself a home theatre and I was able to get one with true 5.1 sound in Rs.13000/-, using this Onida player as a component. Heres how... Most of the DVD players have 2 channel audio output that you can connect to your TV, if you need true surround sound, you need to buy a receiver that has 5.1 decoding, then speakers that can be connected to it.
A low cost alternative is to buy a DVD player with a 5.1 analog output (decoding is built-in in the DVD player) and connect very good quality computer speakers. Typically high-end computer speakers are much better quality than low-end audio speakers in the same price range.
I bought the Onida DVD player and the Altec Lansing 251 5.1 speakers, connected them together and now have a true 5.1 home-theatre system. The quality is quite amazing and there is no distortion even at full volume. Onida also plays any type of CD you can throw at it including rewriteable CDs, and JPEGs. This is very convenient as I burn all images taken from my digital camera to CDs and can show them to visitors on the large TV in a slideshow mode.
The remote is confusing and ugly, but then I can live with that :) Im not going to review the Altec Lansing 251 speakers separately, a quick google will tell you they are the best in this price range, and the bass is amazing.
Tip: Since the two products are not from the same industry they do not plug in directly. You need to buy 3 stereo to RCA cables and 3 female to female connectors to connect the two. Hope this help anybody who looking for something similar.
