Excellent features. Value for money.

I bought this from Big Baazar. Couldn’t find it in Starbaazar/Chroma near Forum, Bangalore.

I was actually looking for Philips or some other known brand. I did not even know Onida made DVD players until I saw it in display. My experience with the Onida TV was very good (my father has it). So I took the risk and picked it up. I was pleasantly surprised. One of the previous comments claimed that it was not able to play all formats. I don’t know about other formats, but it could play all the avi files I tried (including srt subtitles).

Cons:

The file browser for browsing USB or memory card is very basic. No folder browsing. It makes a flat list of all the files. There is some issue with the file name length. If the file names are small then everything seems to work OK. The Remote control is functional but the arrangement of buttons is not very intuitive. Video playback for some videos played from the memory card seems to be slow. This could be because of the SD card bandwidth. I had no issues with videos on my USB 2.0 thumb drive.

Pros:

Amazing features: Optical out, Coaxial audio out and decoded 5.1 audio out

Component Video out. HDMI out. Comes with HDMI cable. Up conversion to 720p/1080i/1080p. The up-converted video quality looks good.

Ability to play scratched DVDs is better than my desktop dvd drive but not perfect.

Interesting feature: Select a start and stop point in the video and continously loop the video between these two points. I am not sure what this could be used for though!

Can rip CDs to mp3 (choice of 128kbps, 192kbps or 320kbps)
