The 'cheeni kum' AC

Split ACs are the in thing for India’s middle class this year, and almost every company in this niche is marketing its products aggressively. Given that a split AC is probably going to be the most expensive electronic item in an upwardly mobile middle class family, it is important that a consumer first understands what type of AC he wants(split or window) and the reqd tonnage(https://daikinindia.com/download_catalogue/index.asp).

The Onida S 012 GR offers value for money - it is priced at least a couple of thousand lower than its MNC competitors. The manufacturer also promises an excellent EER(Energy Efficiency Ratio) which is very important - there is no fun in having an AC but not being able to use it if because it consumes power prodigously. The warranty offered for the compressor is the same as any of the leading brands.

Having used it for a month, I am glad that I chose Onida.  The indoor unit is very silent, and the neighbours are also happy that the outdoor unit hums quietly and does not drip water from all corners. The monthly electric bill was far less than what I feared, and the family is very happy with the cooling provided. Installation was provided by the retailer, but an Onida service tech came along the very next day to check everything. I wish though, that the remote was a bit more sleek, and had backlights so that it could be operated in the dark.

Overall, it has been a delight to use. The only disadvantage is that as this product range from Onida is recent, there is no long term feedback available to compare with other brands. Hence, it is ideal for a person buying his first split AC and intending to replace it after four or five years(by which time the warranty period will have expired, and repairs may possibly be required)
