Mixed reaction. Thats what I had when I saw this movie. And I thought the director wanted us to have it. I mean, he started off with a really fun topic and then went off on a tangent to nowhere. Heres what its about:
Jahaan
---------
A funny named guy, who wants to succeed using shortcuts. His concept of success is pretty weird. He wants to join a certain elite high society and buy flashy cars. Hes also plagued by an alcoholic father who does nothing for a living. So this fellow, is in a dance troupe and wants to earns lotsa money - quick!! Now the only problem here is that it wouldve been better if the director had portrayed this trait using some plot, not plain dialogues. And also, if Jahaan was shown without a State-of-the-art cellphone and not riding a whopping 1 lakh Eliminator.
Aakash
---------
Jahaans rich friend - who has a designer set for a house. Hes pretty level headed and does nothing much to write home about other than having Mita Vashisht as his mother.
Soniya
---------
Played by Mink Singh. Shes got a rather funny accent and you cant figure out whether shes saying Hot Pants or Hot Pets. Anyways thats besides the point. The worst performance in the movie. Shes neither acted well nor looked good. What a waste! In the plot - shes the one who introduces Jahaan to show - strip shows that is.
Aakashs Mom(Mita Vashisht)
--------------------------------------
The same old flaw. Lack of characterization. I mean at the end of the movie she starts off with a ton of melodrama - which was not expected at all. This was the same flaw I found with Devdas (which was a sucky movie btw). I mean if you just have to say things out - why are you using the camera. Just broadcast the story on the radio.
Story
--------
Jahaan gets into strip shows for quick money. For the first one - hes accompanied by his best mate Aakash. Aakash then backs out - and takes Jahaans fuming girlfriend with him. Jahaan is then hired by Mita Vashisht as a gigolo. Jahaan falls in love with the woman he sleeps with and knows absolutely nothing about. Shes cold and emotionless with him and obviously does not reciprocate his love. Then just before the interval Jahaan finds out that hes been screwing his best friends (Aakaashs) mother. And then you can safely leave the hall :) Seriously, after this the director has lost his marbles. Unwarranted and unwanted senti sequences. About Jahaan being in bitter love. And blah blah!! The icing in the cake is, that in the end Aakash finds out - and confronts mama darling. Mama darling starts bawling her heart out - and suddenly from nowhere - she says that you people (son & father) were not there when I needed you - thats why I went around screwing. Duh! Where did that come from?! I mean the sob-story might have had some substance if they had shown something about it. Anyway alls well that ends well. The last scene is copied from DCH - puhlease Deepak Tijori - you did not have to do that!!
