Do take a shawl or sweater as its cold there in the night and early morning.its a sleeping town , very lazy and everything closes by 7.30 pm. And nothing opens before 9 a.m. Do remember, the autos are quite expensive here, without meters, they have fixed rate for everything.your main expense would be autos and jeep.
Places to visit in ooty are: ooty lake(enjoy the boat ride), botanical garden, dodabetta peak(highest peak of south india), rose garden.(this all you can cover in a day) and don’t miss the toy train.
For the next day make a plan for coonor(30 kms away), or filmi chakkar(all the places where film shootings are done, mainly pykara falls, pykara boating, 9th mile, pine forest, etc). For that , just go to cherring cross on the first day, (main market of ooty, just next to botanical garden), and schedule a trip for the next day as you wish from any of the travellers there. They charge 120-150/= per head. They return back to ooty by 7pm(max), so you can take a bus back to bangalore that night itself.
In ooty dont forget to taste their home made chocolates. Most of them make yummy ones. You will love them. Remember, there are not good restaurants there, the hotel restaurants are good but expensive too.
If you want a separate cottage(maxm 3 per cottage) then hotel lakeview is the best.

Just in front of it stands hotel nilgiri woodlands. It has beautiful view of the ooty lake, but the service is not that good. I dont think that would be a problem. I would say go for this hotel.

These hotels are just 2 km from the bus stand or railway station. Other hotels are either a bit expensive or are lodging kind.(please don’t go for lodges, they are ridiculous)
What my calculations say, (including bus fares to and fro ooty) ooty trip will cost you around 3000/-. Bugs for 2 guys 2 days of lavish living. While going to ooty take an AC ksrtc bus, otherwise you may feel vomiting or nausea as the roads are broken and very twisted..
