Ooty - Mother Nature's Haven

When the Gods decided to make Ooty, anyone having gone there and taken a deep breath has felt nothing more extraordinary in cleansing their body with the clear crisp air and absorbing in the greenery of the mountains.

The weather was not hot nor cold. It was just perfect.

I was most impressed by the accommodation arrangements for a 3-star hotel. I made a reservation for 2 days and 3 nights. The rates were very affordable for a normal working person. I went to Ooty in the month of May.

On my first day of arriving in Ooty at the hotel, I was welcomed with a warm greeting from the hotel’s doorman. After my luggage was brought into my room, I looked out of my window, it was extravagantly beautiful for what I saw! My room was overlooking the snow peak mountains! I was really pleased with the surroundings of my room.

The accommodation was included with three meals. The breakfast was a normal American breakfast, that is eggs, tea, coffee, or fresh orange juice, toast, croissant.

Lunch and dinner was a buffet with a variety of food items, such as chicken, fish, prawns, mutton, salads, and two kinds of desserts.

You could select a vegetarian menu at the check in desk on arrival.

During the day, we went sight-seeing to the Nilgris Tea Estate, where one of the most famous tea plant is grown. When you brew the tea in your hotel room, you can smell the rich aroma and the taste is very soothing.

We went to the Flower Show which happens once a year only. There were so many flowers from all over india. I was really impressed by the flower arrangements, they had made the flowers in the shape of birds, for example the peacock. We easily spent half-a-day there.

Opposite the Flower Show, there was a gallery where the handicapped sewed designs of flowers on material and then framed them. The flower designs were sewn so carefully that it was very difficult to tell whether it was imitation or real.

We didn’t do much shopping, although there were quite a number of good items on sale. The only things I bought was a winter jacket and a shawl. Both are very warm, especially useful in the night.

In the evening we went to watch the sunset over the highest mountain. It was amazing. The sunset had a mixture of oranges, reds, and yellows slowly moving down.

The night life was not boring at all too! We went to the park to watch the ’’dancers in the moonlight’’. They danced the classical indian dancing, danced to popular bollywood movie songs, and they played all the indian traditional instruments. It was most enjoyable. My husband and I joined the audience when the rock music started playing. While some others enjoyed sipping their cocktails and eating their snacks under the moonlight!

I felt like I was in Mother Nature’s Haven! I have no doubt that it is the ’’Queen of Hill Stations’’!
