As my trip continued , our next destination was Otty. We took the Nilgiri Express fron Chennai central at 9 :00PM , the train reached Mettupalyal around 5:00AM. Thereon we were suppose to tavel to Otty by the toy train , which was scheduled to depart around 7:00AM..
Its a 5hours journey from Mettupalyam to Otty , and beleive me , every moment you get to see some exqusite natures beauty. The train crosses through 13 tunnels and it also stops at several spots on way , where passengers can click memorable pics.
Monkeys, butterflies, peacocks are often seen on the way , and if you are lucky enough , you might have an encounter with a tiger , or fox , or leopard. Well , this toy train track was built during british times & it is the best track maintained in India. It runs on steam engine from Mettupalayam to Conoor & there on it switches over to Disel engine for the remaining journey till otty. The whole experience of that train is captivating. You have to experience it on your own.
Well , we reached otty around 12:30PM , and checked in CPWD holiday home , as my father is a CAG employee. The best way to explore otty is on foot , and on your own , without any guide........that day after getting ready , we set out for the Childrens park -a small over decorated park, which also has a racing tack.......
Next we went to Boat club, nice cool place , theres a lake , with so many boats , you can enjoy a boat ride & can also just sit and watch people enjoying "have you seen the hindi movie named just married , starring Fardeen Khan & Esha Deol, if yes! The movie has a small clip , which was shot here"
Our first day in otty , was just confined to places nearby the hotel. So we returned back soon , all set to explore otty the next day. More details of next day visit , in my next post-"Enchanting Otty-II"
