OOTY trip in a most Economic way

We have travelled to ooty in the month of may, 2007.We got our tickets booked through VRL travels, madiwala, bangalore. They have very good packages depending upon the number of days we want to spend there, number of places and the type of hotel we would opt for.We have booked

our tickets for 2 days and single night stay in the hotel. It costed around 1800/- per head.I felt this one was a very economic deal because we have enquired from several hotels in ooty, and they told us that the minimum cost would be around 1000/- for an economic hotel, and that too for a single day and night stay.

Even it is very hard to find a vacant room in the weekends and that too in the peak summer time. So, we decided to go through a travel agent. So, we opted to go through VRL.This package included one night and 2 days stay along with the to and fro charges in between Bangalore and ooty.

our trip started on a friday night. They have asked us to come to vrl office, madiwala around 6.pm, there were 4 couples including us who have booked tickets for the same package. So, we got a good company too..They have taken all of us to the Kempegowda bus station in their own vehicle, from there one of their agents came there and gave us the bus tickets for a KSRTC bus which goes to ooty..We boarded the bus at 9 PM and We reached ooty at 7:00 AM in the morning of the next day.

They gave us the details of the hotel on their tickets and we have contacted the hotel receptionist after getting down .The hotel is just about a kilometer from the busstop. We were asked to get ready by 10 "o" clock of the next day and we were given the chance to enjoy for the entire day as we like.

In the afternoon, we went to the rose garden where we found several varieties of roses with so many beautiful colours and luckily there was a rose show at that time. The rose show happens every year for a period of 2-3 days.It is a tradition being followed in ooty from several years. An important note is the fine of 1000 rupees for plucking or damaging a flower.

So, Just Enjoyed without touching any flower. From here we went to Botonical gardens. Here we found many varieties of plants and trees.A 20 million old fossiled tree is a special attraction. From here our next place of visit was the ooty lake. Here we saw an irregular ’L’ shaped lake .It is a wonderful experience to go in a boat trip admist cool breezes and wonderful picturesque settings.Children can enjoy the toy train which goes around the lake.

Then next day, at 10 "o" clock our trip started in the bus which was arranged by the hotel and a Guide accompanied us to explain about all the places.First we were taken to coonor, a small town in ooty.It is the first in the series of the three hill stations on the Nilgiri Hills. There we can find many tea gardens and u can try different varieties of tea at the tea stalls.

On the way to coonor, we find the miniature train line from Mettupalayam. Our guide told us we can actually enjoy a lot if we travel from mettupalayam to ooty by the train. But, in this trip we couldn’t go for it it.Wish me better luck next time.

We were taken to Dolphin’s nose and Lamb’s rock. Dolphin Nose viewpoint is a panoramic place from wherein you can watch the Nilgiris in all their grandeur. Here we have got a chance to see a beautiful waterfall known as the Law’s fall, The fall originates from a height of 180 feet. From the dolphins nose, we have the facility to observe the waterfalls through telescope. The water fall is about 5km from this place.Next a lunch break for about 45 minutes.

Next place in our trip was sim’s park. Here we got a chance to see nearly 100’s species of plants and beautiful gardens. From here were taken to Doddabetta peak.It is the highest mountain in the Nilgiri Hills, at a height of 2623 meters. There is an observatory at the top of Doddabetta with two telescopes available for the public , and we can enjoy the magnificent panoramic view of the whole District. We were told that we can even see chamundi hills of Mysore

from here on a clear day. Then at 6PM, we were taken to the hotel where we have boarded .They have arranged transport till the busstation. That is the end of our ooty trip.Overall, i can say ooty is the most beautiful hill station I have ever seen and it deserves the title"Queen Of Hills stations".
