I know most of us could have visited Uthakamandalam (Ooty). How many of us know about the other side of the hill station. Come with me; Close your eyes as you read and imagine the scene and setting around you. Imagine we are at the center of the Hill station near the Lake. Now we start driving away and people, houses, cottages, and every man made thing of all sorts keep zipping past. The winding path snakes up to a dense forest & though we are in the middle of a sunny day, darkness wraps around you. Yes the forest is so thick & dense you hear the Hum of the engine, the rolling noise of the tyres hitting a stone here and there. You also hear a distant bird call then and there. There is a welcome wetness you see on every thing you look around. The shade of green your eyes were longing for wraps around everywhere. The distinct aroma of the eucalyptus & pine forests engulfs you. You almost start thinking that you are in heaven.
Suddenly a view unfolds in front of you... a catchment lake. The redness of the soil a round the dark blue water body… a spectacular scene. You are ready to die now, as this seems the end of the world. There are several catchment lakes you can see in Ooty. Pykara, Moyar, Glen Morgan, Singara are few places with such serene lakes. There are several dams around Ooty like Avalanche& Pykara just to name a few. Get a special permission from Forest department & Venture into West catchment & drive deep into the forest. Suddenly you see landscape almost resembling an Alien planet. The clouds madly rush along with the wind and at the end of their journey get stopped by a wall of mountains & Rush upwards & what you see is unbelievable. You are at the end of a mountain range that suddenly and dangerously drops into the silent valley beneath. The trees are stumped and shortened by severe climatic conditions & resemble Bonsai. The leaves are thick& plastic like. Sometimes you see a land texture resembling a desert as well. It is Heaven!
Give it a try.
IF you give it a hard try, You will get there & sure become a poet!
