~~~ A wonderful web browser for my mobile set ~~~
Those were the initial days of my associations with my beloved Mouthshut.com. I was entirely dependent upon my DSL connection with my laptop for accessing this site. I was comfortable with the Broadband and computer I had for accessing this addictive site.
But as the addiction grew to a higher level, I had started thinking of some alternative to avail the access for even more time.
I had Sony Ericsson W 700i, but was not knowing that I could access internet through my mobile too. I got the setting from the mobile operator for my set (Docomo). I was so happy to have the access through mobile set.
But soon, I started having irritation from the default browsing system provided by the operator. It was not user friendly, slow in loading and full of advertising links.
I googled for a mobile browser and homed in for this Opera Mini 4.
It was a small file of less than 1 MB size. It was free. I transfered the file from my lappie to Mobile and installed in few seconds.
I restarted the mobile for a better installation of the software. On first use, it asked permission for using Internet and took around one minute to load the browser. But afterwards it started loading my beloved web page in 15-20 seconds flat.
The image quality can be set to `High`, `Medium` and `Low`. Higher setting requires more data usage. It has only one font by default which can not be changed, but the three font sizes can be selected.
Google is the default search engine. The Search bar is provided in addition to the search engine. It remembers the browsing history too. When I put just a letter `m` it loads mouthshut.com.It also has bookmarks below the search engine bar.
It also shows, how much data is being downloaded for loading a web page. For example, the home page of the mouthshut.com takes around 40 KB. After the full loading of page there is a `Zoom` option of one level for making the read easier. There is page reload option, Back and Menu option.Scrolling is a breeze with opera mini, especially when your mobile set has Joy stick for scrolling.
Earlier, only some high end mobile sets had this browser as factory installed web browser and those manufacturers used to proudly advertise that.
But , now, it`s an open source browsing software.
Thanks Opera.
Three cheers for it.
