This review is useful for all people having mobile phones which can be used as a PC modem by means of a data cable , infrared , bluetooth device. Orange has two types of internet services ORANGE WORLD and ORANGE ACCESS of which ORANGE ACCESS was available for 499/- rupees monthly rental with unlimited data access. But from september they changed it to 199/- rupees monthly rental + 50 paise per 10 KILOBYTES data sent or received which is too costly.
So for all frustrated users of ORANGE ACCESS users , my friend has told a solution for all of you. Activate ORANGE WORLD ( 99 wala internet )on your mobile phone by sending ACT HW to 144 (prepaid users) and 111(postpaid users). Then make a new dial-up connection. Give the dial-up number as *99#, be sure that your phone is detected as a modem ( fellows , nokia 3200 does not have pc modem , so sympathy for 3200 users) on the pc.
Now dial with the new connection from your pc. You will be connected to internet server of orange just like you did with ORANGE ACCESS. But you will receive IP ADDRESS like 10.16.xxx.xxx and will not be able to surf by any means.
Here comes the trick. In your internet explorer , go to tools -> internet options -> connections. Then click on use a proxy server. Give the following address and port 10.10.1.100 : 9401 ( it is official orange proxy server ). Now you will be able to surf all http sites and http secure sites. Be sure to check , use the proxy server for all protocols.
For yahoo messenger to connect, just enable the option , FIREWALL WITH NO PROXIES in the preferences.
Sorry friends , only http and http secure protocols are supported . FTP, GOPHER , SOCKS , SMTP , POP3 are not supported but most of us use webmail and messengers so enjoy this internet. You can use HTTP tunnels to enable all protocols through any external proxy server.
Special note for hutch WORLD subscribers , Orange is a poor child of HUTCH in india. Every new thing is announced on HUTCH first and ORANGE obeys as a dog. No separate decisions and even ORANGE call centre people know the services as HUTCH WORLD AND HUTCH ACCESS ( they call it APN service). So this solution IS VALID to HUTCHWORLD subscribers by default. This answers the question of first comment. More suggestions on HTTP tunnelling are welcome.
