PROBABLY CUSTOMER S MAY NOT BELIEVE THAT THIS BANK MAINTAINS DOUBLE STATEMENTS FOR CUSTOMERS ACCOUNTS I am maintaining my savings account at N K Bagrodia Public school sector - 9, Rohini since 2000.
It provides a facility to get customers pass book updated at any of its branch, pass book updating kiosk or getting paper statement etc. In 2009 I was working at Gateway institute of Engineering and Technology Sonipat. As I was to go abroad, to save time I got a statement for my account at N K BAGRODIA Public school(My parent branch) at OBC Branch at GIET. I got a shock to see that the statement at GIET branch was showing my balance higher by Rs. 3000/- than the balance at my parent Branch. I immediately contacted the BM of my parent Branch. His reaction was:He took my pass book with statement from GiET & tore it off before I could realise what has happened. He printed a fresh statement on the new pass book with balance lower by Rs 3000/-" On my questioning & protest at this he simply stated, the statement at GIET is wrong & only the one he has given is correct" GIET bank has committed some mistake. I reluctantly agreed to his statement. After couple of days I left for USA & forgot this episode. Now same thing happened again in July 2017 & is continuing as such as I was cautious this time not to allow my passbook to be tempered with. INTERESTINGLY THIS TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED AT THE PARENT BRANCH ITSELF. On 7th July 2017, I approached the bank for updating of my passbook. The concerned executive completed it partially up to 30.06.2017 & told me to come again next as my passbook is full & new pass books are not in stock. I approached the bank on 17th July again. New pass book was issued & left out entries earlier were completed. Incidentally Some of the entries in the old full pass book & the new passbook were overlapping. IN THESE OVERLAPPING ENTRIES I FOUND THE CATCH. Entries made in the new pass book were giving balance higher by Rs, 5685/- than in the old passbook. I once again approached the BM. This BM is different than that in 2009. He did not agree with the new entries & brought out a new paper statement with lower balance entries. He kept on insisting that the lower paper entries are correct & new passbook entries are due to some error in the system without specifying the same. I complained to higher ups in the bank. They referred me again to the bank manager. Bank Manager was adamant & stuck to his earlier version. Not only this he took this as his personal case & made these statements:
a. I am Bihari & am not afraid of any body.
b. I can go to court, their advocates are sufficiently strong to handle the case.
c. Bank does not care even if I transfer my Fixed deposits from the bank to some other side. Bank will not be poor.
d. He is the final authority & what so ever he says is correct. He does not agree with the entries in in the pass book but believes only in his computer & so on.
e. When I asked him that pass book is also based upon their computer, he said that is due to some system error & once again did not elaborate the error. I complained to Ombudsman. He again referred me back to higher ups in the bank forcing me to enter the same cycle of going back to the same adamant BM. Mean while I got my pass book updated once at another prashant Vihar branch of OBC & later at the parent branch. All these up datings support the new entries higher by Rs. 5685. But the BM does not agree. OBC has a system to mail every month a statement to the customer. This statement supports only the old entries lower by 5685/- My case is not resolved. SO MY QUESTION REMAINS THAT OBC MAINTAINS TWO SERVERS ONE FOR THE CUSTOMER & SECOND FOR INTERNAL CIRCLE OF THE BANK. IN THE SECOND CASE THEY DIVERT SOME MONEY POSSIBLY FROM CUSTOMERS ACCOUNTS TO INNER CIRCLE ACCOUNT TO MAKE UP FOR THEIR LOSSES. Similar problem must have been for other customers too. AN INQUIRY BY THE RBI, GOV"T, ECONOMIC CRIME WING OF POLICE HAS TO BE CONDUCTED. THIS EPISODE MAY BE A TIP OF ICEBERG OF THE BANKING INDUSTRY.
