Lost and Found....

I was in class 4th and had this weird class mate with weirdest last name pronouncing something like asking to “bring a bamboo”. He was huge in comparison to me and I was always worried to come shoulder to shoulder in sports period while we played football as one of his move will throw me to the ground and in another instances in place of ball going in the other teams net – its me who use to be hitting the net with full force – thanks to his great shoulder pushes – although they were unintentional – than I moved to a different school and lost him. I missed him so much.

I was in 6th class and we had a small bunch of friends who used to sit together in lunch time and used to share each others stuff. You know there are different groups in schools – people who bring in cakes and pastries in lunch, than there is a group carrying home made sandwiches and stuff like that and than there is this third group of people who bring in Roti, Sabzi and achar stuff – I belonged to the third category, in other words u can read them as Super Rich, Upper Middle and Middle class people. I had this cool friend of mine whose dad was a lawyer and another was a post officer’s son and another with his dad in Indian Railways. Here I met a guy and his sister became sister to me, only sister I have till date as god refused giving me one in  real life and I too thanked her by naming my daughter on her name. she used to tie rakhi to me before her own brother. Again my dad got transferred as I reached 10th standard and I lost them all. I missed them so much.

I was in 11th class and these two guys came in touch with me, they were my life for good 5 years till I graduated, I used to ride my bicycle to this guys house all the way in opposite direction of school to pick him up as he didn’t had one and his dad couldn’t afford the Bus fee. The other one use to pick me up if any day something had to go wrong with my bicycle. Apart from Sundays – we always had our lunches together, we saw so many movies bunking the schools but always got the first class marks in exams too so nobody complained. We together broke off all the furniture in our class on the farewell day, Me and him got the pleasure of breaking those tube lights in movie style and we turned the ceiling fans blades too towards the floor as if they died as we left. It was fun. Than I graduated and moved to Delhi for job hunt and lost them too. I missed them so much.

I started my career with a company owned by my cousin, I was the driver, photocopier, computer operator, resourcer, manager and authorized signatory too for the company he owned, life was fun with so many good colleagues, I was in love for the first time with the girl I thought I am gonna spend my life and some good friends who frequented PVR Anupam on weekly basis with me and Pizza Hut in South Ex was our favorite spot to meet. Some of them went to US and some of them took another job in different city’s  / countries and I lost them. I missed them so much.

But – now this is a big butt. I heard of this site called Orkut. Surfed around and found it to be a total waste of time and was amazed to see the pornographic content – that too explicit – may it be pictures or videos. So stayed away. Till I got an email stating that I got certain messages in my account. Opened it up and realized that a friend of mine(The first one from top that bamboo) guy was looking for me. I was shocked and surprised and happy and what not!

Immediately I sent him a scrap – that’s the new thing we do apart from sending offline and online messages – you scrap on Orkut. I sent him my cell number and tried finding his contacts – which unfortunately was not there and guess what? In next 12 hours he called me from Mumbai – we laughed out loud remembering those days. He didn’t changed a bit and I got the same compliment that I haven’t put on a single kilo after we went our ways just that my moustache has come in.

He told me that you can search for anybody you lost anywhere in this planet and with certain permutations and combinations with names and other stuff you can search for literally anybody in here. It took me one week to get used to it, I made damn good profile and bragged whatever I can about me and waited……… Nobody called me.

Than I used the search and searched searched and searched for days, I was glad that I almost found all of the above friends – even the long lost girl friend too.

We are so glad to find each other in different parts of the world and it is indeed a delight to see our children in the pics and say to each other that “hey, we lost each other when we were kids and now we found each other to know that we have kids”. A friend even mailed me to not to call him “Chintu” as a lot of professional friends are in the Orkut too and they might make fun of his name.

I am thankful to Orkut to give me those good old days back.

Guess what! I drove to Pune yesterday to meet that guy whom I used to pick up for school and we really made each other emotional by remembering those moments and reliving them as our wives and children talked and played with each other respectively. The 10 hours we spent yesterday together were not enough and he has promised me to come to Mumbai sometime next month so we can spend some more time with each other.

His and my parents are still clueless as what exactly is this Orkut is? And how do you guys found each other? We tried explaining but still couldn’t. I am sure my dad is going to do some Orkutting too pretty soon.

This weekend I am spending sometime with that friend of mine whose dad was a lawyer. He hails from my hometown yet – we never found each other, but on net.

What is Orkut: I guess everybody in here has visited the site more than I have till now, if you have not than go ahead and make ur profile ASAP, you never know - an old friend of yours might be looking for you too. You can make your profile as you wish, upload pictures and videos. Write testimonials for your friends who are already there. Scrap and message people, become members of different groups running in there and can have a ball of time if you have spare time.

It has given me more than I expected and I am glad that somebody dragged me in unwontedly. I am still on the lookout for that friend of mine whose dad was in Indian Railways and I am sure that someday he will make his profile too on orkut and either of us will call the other. That would again call for a great time as I had this weekend.

Thanks to Orkut and the people behind it.
