Orkut stands for Obnoxiously Relentless Kommunity of **Useless Timepassers
*I hope you found the abbreviation just apt for the site. I don’t mean to offend the ones who are happily placed on the site and reviving old aquaintances and friendships. But, genuinely speaking what good are such friends who you have to search the net for?
I was never a member on Orkut, but I was bitten by the bug like most of you a time in my life. I made a good profile, thinking that this would be another medium to chat/have fun with friends and even posted my picture( despite feeling a lil insecure). Slowly I realised that it is sheer waste of time and the friends I have are there with me( well-connected) otherwise too. Also, that I don’t need orkut to talk to them. As far as meeting old friends is concerned, you never lose a friend who is dear to you. You would not be searching for a dear friend on orkut and if you do, then s/he is not a dear friend of yours.
I will tell you what generally people do on orkut and other sites akin to it. They hunt for people who would kill their time like they are in writing stupid meaningless-publically-open-for the world-scraps which serve no purpose. They would pass remarks on ones beauty( in case of girls) or machoism( in case of guys). In nothing at all, people would resort to useless comments, jokes, time wasting pursuits.
Each person on Orkut is busy adding the world to his friend-list so that he outnumbers all his friends. Its a rat race to chase the opposite gender. Some perverts even resort to stealing pictures of the silly girls posted openly on the net and use their pictures to their free-will.
Ending this I would say, that such sites should not be promoted as the youth is wasting its time and effort in something totally useless. The friends I have are cherished by me and are close to me then I do not need an orkut to be with them.
