How many times a thriller or a suspense movie gives you a treatment that might loosen your lower jaw line? I bet not many times, but this one will surely do something for sure. So straightly I would recommend you to go for this movie for an absolute suspense and a genuine thriller experience......... Too good!!! The last time that I felt on the similar lines was The Sixth Sense and after so many years Orphan fits the bill. No doubt the former is an absolute benchmark for any suspense movies but this one too has enough meat!!!
Plot:
No, I am not revealing any secrets over here. Also the review doesn’t have any spoilers but will just try to get you the overall scenario that I went through. This flick is a short story of a small family who adopt a sweet little girl named Ester (Isabelle Fuhrman) from an Orphanage. Just days after her migration to the new family all sorts of weird things start to happen. The girl is way too different from all the normal kids. She is smart and also matured then her age of 9 years! The parents are happy to have such a nice, matured and a smart kid in the family. But, this sweet feeling was short lived. The siblings are finding it tough to get along with the new sister and try to keep aloof from her. On the other hand Esther too could not stand by her new siblings and always kept ways from not only her brothers and sisters but from the whole family! Meanwhile, in the backdrop the whole family is getting degraded and Esther is remotely responsible. At least, Mom thinks on the similar lines. But Dad still defends the daughter. So what was that seriously wrong with this new child? Is he haunted? Is she the ghost? Or there was a ghost already in the house that was making the girl do all the weird things? I bet you would have never thought about the possible outcome of this.... NO WAY! Clear your doubts if any in the cinema hall...
Cast performance:
I am not sure whether I should be comparing any child artists from the Indian soil and their counterparts in the Hollywood. But must say that they have got some immensely talents crew of some fine actors who would mock even at their seniors. Yet again I saw one such extremely talented actress - Isabelle Fuhrman in the role of Esther and I am blown away by her performance... Absolutely superb. The other time that I felt the same way was with Halley Joel Osment from The Sixth Sense. I can see the movie yet again and again only for the acting and excellent expressions in those climax scenes.. Kudos to her. Rest all the actors are fine and they all have done their bit as required.
The movie is a bit slow in pace in the first half and you might feel to yawn too. But as soon as you come back having those packs of popcorns and colas you might forget them to eat and drink them. The slowness of the first half is just not there and it will keep you on the edge of the seat. The secret and the suspense is shared in 2-3 minutes so pay attention to the investigations!
Few Scenes of your interest:
1. Dad meeting Esther for the first time.
Esther playing the piano
Esther and her brother (Just too much)
Sequence after Sister XYZ leaving for the church (You will be puzzled here)
The last 20-25 minutes (After The Sixth sense, this one is the best)
Enjoy this lovely movie and let me know as to how you felt about it....
