Many times I thought that if someone ask me this question then I can’t give answer becoz I say yes and no also.
That’s why I write this review about what I feel about Outlook.
Outlook is one of reputed name in media world. outlook started way back in 1995 under leadership of one of the best journalist Vinod Mehta and back up of Raheja.
when it launched it made sensational entry in magazine category as it launched as weekly news magazine. with superb printing, glossy paper and new style of glamorous reporting with very good investigative cover story and various features.Thats why India today is turned weekly after entry of outlook and they find serious competition first time in 2o years of their existence.
outlook has carried many investigative stories like cricket scandal, kargill problem and on many scandals and scams happens in various stage in India.
But as time passes it lost it superb touch on various story. Many time I feel outlook is biased for their views and reporting. It has never supported various government policies. Most time I find they are against the government and not unbiased in their views. Most of time it criticize the government policies and stand taken by various govt. authority.
For e.g. issues of Sardar Sarovar Dam. It has always motivated Narmada Bachao Andolan activist and invited Megha patkar and Arundhati roy to write for their Andolan.I had never find that they have written about the positive side of Sardar Sarovar Dam.they provide platform to Arundhati roy to speaks against even supreme courts also. They never invited people related to Sardar Sarovar dam from Gujarat to speak in favor of dam. Why. that’s my question.
Riots spreads in city area of Gujarat due to Godhara incidents.
First of all I like to say that they had hype that events so much that there is general impression that in all Gujarat various counter attack happened. I had visited my native place in Gujarat in April-may. But I have not seen incidence in any village area where I gone.
The reaction of that incidence is spread in south Gujarat, area of ahmedabad and certain area of rajkot but that all are city area, The way they reported incidence I not happy with their reporting at all.they had written all about problem faced by minority but not what even other caste also face same wrath.
But in various investigative stories the information is very well written but sometimes it is too short.
outlook followed tradition to publish special edition on specific theme and is successful in that also. for e.g. it had recently published a issue on ’science and technology’. in past also it published many special issue like Independence special, new year special, reforms special, diwali specials and annual issues.
overall I rate this magazine as good in terms of news, information, views, and various columns by very good journalist. In comparison India Today and The Week it is good in terms of selection of news and investigative stories, content, write ups, subscription offers and various contests .
Recently they had increase the price of per issue from Rs.10 to Rs. 15 which I think is more .
There customer care service cell is very good if you had any problem in getting issue they will sort out as early as , i tell you this from my experience.
