One of the best places to hang out by yourself by the floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the road on a rainy day, with a steaming cup of coffee and a crisp croissant and a creamy pastry and a juicy pizza and a cool mocktail and....Gosh, I miss the rains! Not that being with friends would make much of a difference, only youd have to skip the window and move towards the inner room, which is warm and has a perennial party atmosphere. The walls are full of amusing graffiti, the ceiling is done up with bellowing curtains and theres mirrors to one side, so you can see who else is around.
This is a fun place to hang out, and if you are a regular Shivaji Park enthusiast, youre bound to meet someone you know every 10 minutes! The staff, brisk and efficient, is friendly once you get to know them well, which you eventually will. Theres self service in the outer room , where you can help yourself to all sorts of bakery products. The cakes and pastries here are delicious. One of the best cakes I have had is their Dutch Truffle, which their cook whipped up hot and dripping with chocolate for us close to midnight!
The restaurant, which is in the inner room, serves everything from Sizzlers, Chicken Tikka and Chicken Diane to Nachos and Enchilladas. However, experience has proven that youd best stick to the Continental or Mexican fare and leave the Moghlai, which you can have elsewhere, anyways. Also, the food served in the evenings tastes better than that served in the afternoons.
The average cost per head in the hot breads section should not exceed rs. 60, even if youre a hogger like me, while the restaurant section should set you back by around rs. 150 per head.
Check out the garlic bread and nachos here - yummy!
reservations are not necessary, but come saturday and sunday, and you might have to wait a while. Which is no problem since youre bound to meet friends waiting too!
