Laban, the wonder cream

My move to the Middle East a few months back was an easy transition. Having family out here made it easier to adjust, and soon I was pretty much adapted to my new environment. Mentally and socially that is. My skin however, seemed to have a mind of its own, and a rather obstinate one at that! While the rest of my body eventually adjusted, my face behaved like an impossible child!

I tried my best to give “it” the environment it was used to in India. I used the same cosmetics that I used in India.  Bad idea! This was not India, so my face would hear none of it! The Air Conditioning at office and home truly made things worse. So I thought, “why not change my cosmetics?” and that aggravated the problem further. I started looking like a 47-year old instead of 27! Needless to say, I was worried, and the stress must have made my face look worse.

You must be asking, “what about food? Everyone knows that the face is the index of what you eat.” True, but sadly, it didn’t work either. I stuffed myself with palak, carrot, and drank gallons of water! But my skin didn’t improve.

Okay, what about exercise? Yes, I had plenty of that too. I regularly jogged, and exercised. By regularly I mean everyday, not once a month!

Finally, I chanced upon this angel of a woman called Pauline. Working from her home in Kuwait, she runs a semi-beauty parlor. I visited her to get my eyebrows done. And guess what? She ended up solving my skin problem! One look at me, and she said that the problem was because of my O+ blood group. I was impressed. I hadn’t even told her that I was a O+ type! Pauline, it turned out, was a former beauty consultant in Bollywood.

Now at this point if you are planning to abandon my review and leave, don’t! I know this sounds like one of those customer testimonials you see in ads. It isn’t. I’m just getting to the root of my problem. And the lengthy background was very necessary to help you get the whole picture. So here goes:

What Pauline recommended was, a simple application of buttermilk, whenever I could. She told me to use it regularly, as often as possible. She asked me to throw out all my cosmetics, and just invest in a box of buttermilk every week.(In Kuwait, buttermilk is known as laban and comes in 400 ml boxes, costing only 100 fils each). Her second bit of advice was to drink a lot of bitter gourd or karela juice. I balked at the thought of doing so, but I went home determined to try it out.

Lo and behold! Within a week, my skin started recovering. Like the “Dove” ad goes, I could actually feel my skin breathing again. I will be ever grateful to Pauline for helping me get over my skin problem.

:-) That’s it! Thanks for reading my review, and I do hope that it will help you as well!
