Yup, you heard me.GET YOUR FOOT OUT OF YOUR MOUTH and get that toothbrush in!
According to surveys, most people know bupkis(nothing) about the proper care of your teeth and gums.
I dont claim to be a know it all, but Id like to pass on a few good tips that I learned from my dentist.
First of all, you must brush your teeth with a soft bristle brush. A harder brush will not clean your teeth better. It will irritate your gums! When brushing your teeth use an up and down motion and a circular motion. Brush the front, top and back of your teeth for at least 4-5 minutes twice a day.(3 times if you have the time). Use any toothpaste containing flouride. Its not the flavor of the toothpaste that cleans, its the ingredients. A natural toothpaste, containing no sugars is the best. It may not taste the best, but it is the best to use.
Second, and just as important. Floss! So many people brush regularly and dont know why they get cavities and/or gum disease. You must floss before you brush, each time. It helps get any residue of foods(which break down into sugars) out from between your teeth.
And, something that most people dont do and/or dont know about. Brush your tongue. Go as far back as you can with your toothbrush, and brush. The back of your tongue harbors bacteria! (They also sell a scraping device for you to use. But a toothbrush works just as well.)
And last, but not least. Visit your dentist twice a year for a thorough cleaning of your teeth and a full examination of teeth and gums.
Take care of your mouth and your mouth will take care of you!
Happy brushing!
