This place unfortunately(for consumers) has over exploited its legacy and reputation without backing it with appropriate value for what its customers pay. I went there today(Jayanagar Outlet) to get a suit stitched for my daughter. First of all, they were so unsure if they could stitch a ladies suit. They pulled out an old catalog and showed me a style and promised me that they will replicate the same. Inspite of my instincts, I went ahead and agreed. Then a fabric range, which was overpriced was shown and we made a selection.
After the measurements, at the billing counter, my sister in law made the payment as it was a gift from her to my daughter for clearing the law entrance exams. As I am from the apparel industry, I casually inquired from them on what is the consumption they had used for calculating the fabric cost. To my shock, they quoted 3.5 meters, which was at least 20% more than what a ready made brand would charge and at least 15% more than what any other decent tailor would charge. When I asked them, I got a rude answer that this is the standard consumption they charge for all customers and If I did not like it, I could take my money back. When I protested, they cooly pointed me to the customer complaint number(which belonged to the owner) and asked me to complain, if I wish. I had no choice but to storm out of the place and write this review.
Looking at other reviews, it is very clear that they try to scam the customer at every opportunity. The kind of skills of their staff and the master tailor convinced me that they dont deserve the premium they charge. It is far better to buy a ready-made suit than to waste your money. Good brands make their suits in modern factories with good fusing machines and sewing machines. I am sure PN Rao uses a sweat shop to produce the suits. Please dont waste your time here. If your ready made does not fit you, there are better options like some of the Raymond or S Kumar stores in the vicinity.
