Progeria is a rare genetic condition whereby a child grows faster physically than he is supposed to and get into the old age in his teens as per calendar years. Paa is a story of such a child, who grows 5 times faster than normal. His mental state is more like a normal child, but the physical condition deter like old people. To add to the troubles, he was an unwanted child for the father. Watch Paa to know the wicked child called Auro…
It is a light film in approach with fun filled dialogues as the highlight. However, a serious family story is woven nicely to add depth to the entire proceedings.
The film is overall entertaining, especially in the second half. It is an extra ordinary situation patched up with an ordinary story which the writer narrated well. Unlike other serious movies it don’t give head aches as the proceedings are done so smoothly. The film has something for adults and something for children as well. The father son relation was shown quite maturely but it is the mother daughter relation shown in the beginning which was more heartening. The political angle of the incidents, though kept unattended in the end was quite good. Wished there had a film fully focused on the political corruption and MP Amol style is there to remove them all. If the director asked us to use Cheeni Kum in his earlier outing, the protagonist cannot have Chilli mixed food in this film!
However, there are two major aspects which I felt could have been corrected. The first, the dubbing for Amitab Bachchan look awkward in the beginning. Somehow it felt so irritating, though lately get adjusted to it and in the second half things were better. Secondly, the makers were confused about the height the Auro. In some scenes we can see him a bit higher than the UP class children, then in another scene he is taller than the principal and even matching to the height of Abishek Bachchan. These two mistakes, in my opinion could have been avoided with a better planning.
Amitab Bachchan surprises us with each of his new performance, which is fantastic! The creativity and the energy level the actor shows is amazing. Abhishek Bachchan looks so fresh and cool in the film. He looks more matured and well controlled the role to say he didn’t fail not even in a single scene. Vidya Balan gives a superb performance, thanks to an author supported character. Paresh Rawal got only a small role in the film, but he did it with perfection. Overall performance deserves nothing less than excellence.
Sweet, melodious and heart touching, the music of the film is brilliant. Back ground scores too impresses highly. Choreography is good and average. The experimental first song was a disaster as it was giving pain to my eyes, otherwise the songs are well pictured.
Cinematography by PC Sreeram is of superb quality. However, felt there are at least few scenes where the lighting is not matching to the timing of the scenes. Probably the chart given to him was the villain. Otherwise it is a feel good cinematography of excellent quality.
Editing is good. Make up need special mention, which is of top quality.
Overall, the movie entertains. Don’t go with high expectations but there is fun and some thoughts for this weekend.
My rating: 3.5 stars
