?Kitne ajeeb rishte hain yahan pe!? (Strange is the nature of relationships in this town!)-The title song of the movie is quite appalling and so true to reality.
Page 3 is a sneak peek inside Bombay?s film industry full of lies, deceit, plagiarism, incest, pedophilia, drugs, underworld, the law and its upholders.
The fantasy land is so cut off from reality that its inhabitants are incapable of distinguishing between happiness and sorrow. Fame and not money appears to be a bigger sin here. Or else one wouldn?t discuss at a friend?s funeral about the fashion statement a dead body would be making by being cremated in Sandalwood. People would not marvel at the thought of getting a chance to witness a real life funeral! And how can you forget talking to a reporter at the funeral about the new cosmetics range you launched in Milan and how the dead lady so diligently propagated it while she was around!
There are a lot of interesting episodes you will be able to see through the reporter?s (Konkona Sen) eyes. Socialite dos are no less than business conference rooms where fates are decided on which among the many new aspiring actors could be a better company for a long drive (read: a better choice enroute superstardom!).
Ecstasy, Coke, Speed are on the buffet menu for such parties and modeling assignments, one night stands or a pedophile deals are the return gifts.
And its not just a few who are a part of such life. Anyone from the stars and politicians to the spotboys and drivers involving people across all status are consumed by sheer gloss and glamour.
For those who feel the pain of such life, the best option is to quietly and discreetly segregate his/her life and lead a simple ?good citizen? routine. What will you loose?-Not much-but maybe just being the next biggest superstar or being the wife of a Billionaire NRI in NY or maybe you?ll have to undergo slight eyesores such as witnessing blood dripping arms and legs separated from quivering bodies lying ahead of you when the next bomb blast takes place in your street. And yeah?you may never know your spouse is actually gay!
The movie is hard hitting for those who haven?t heard of/seen the reality or wait for sting operations to expose them. But, it?s a better way of bringing about awareness for the masses-by casting fictitious characters in real stories; it saves us the embarrassment of learning of the truth from the horse?s mouth!
Though the movie brings to light the sleaze and disgusting face of the already hypocritical society, it?s more or less understood that nothing can be done to cleanup the dirt. The reporter who conciously makes a decision to get rid of Page 3 journalism is once again pushed into it towards the end, out of lack of choice!
A good quote from the movie, ? You have to be in the system to change it!? The reporter who exposes a pedophile case gets fired because the convict was no other than the owner of the newspaper for which she worked. I really don?t want to sound so clichéd and ironic but I have also heard about a sexual harassment case being filed against the director of this movie :)!!!
