City of Mumbai- base of Bollywood, finance capital of India, multi cultured… naah! A mixed-cultured city…
There have been movies about Mumbai like
-Bombay… about riots n bomb blasts
-Pran jae par shaan na jae… labor class life, stories from a chawl.
All the movies highlighting of issues about mills…
- shri 420… about a person giving in to the glamour world cheaters… explained what Mumbai was at that point in time.
Now Page 3- I would call it an updated version of Shri 420
Shri 420 had a ‘morally correct’ ending…
In page ‘Page 3’ life goes on…
It isn’t a documentary but yes it documents most of the aspects that city of Mumbai encounters. It gives insights about glamorous socialites of the city, which also serves the purpose of making a commercial movie – includes some sex, item numbers, socialite parties, homosexuality, night life, drugs, extra maritals, double faced n masala, child abuse… now that one isn’t a best seller though- its just a sensation creator… as good as a bomb blast… oh yeah! He has included an actual bomb blast too.
But that’s about any city- with two extremes… the glamour and the labor.
Also there have been movies about the glamour world
Like rules - pyar ka superhit formula, Mili… most were goody goody bubbly love stories.
So! whats the deal with Page 3?
Its just about – Mumbai- just another aspect that this city has…
Getting into the making of this movie- I didn’t notice much but the basic characterization.
Each actor has a definite place/ position in the society… a life/ background… and no confusions about it.
The high-class bits, rich fkrs, potential actress (secrete prosts of the producers, super model, people with ‘contacts’, and everything I mentioned earlier.
The story doesn’t matter- the charactors make the events… and that what makes this movie.
I walked in to the theater with few friends n mom… Page 3 wasn’t a new story revealed to us… I had read some of shobha de’s writings.
Being a Bombay-iet we all had someone in the movie to identify ourselves with… most of us identified with the young journalist that plays the central character… but it beats me that a journalist could be aloof to the ‘sick side of life’.
I could identify with the supporting character ‘Purl’…
If you don’t leave the theater in half an hour… u would want to stick till the end.
Watch this movie if you don’t get disturbed to see some gaudy reality summed up in 2 hours.
