As a Tour Operator, based in Bangalore, our prime aim is to visit new interesting destinations in India frequently and promote the same, if we feel, it is good for tourists apart from the current tourist attractions.
We have visited many tourist/ pilgrim spots in Kerala like - Cochin, Munnar, Thekkady, Kovalam, Guruvayur etc. But we were not knowing about Palakkad and its importance before. Once we have traveled through Palakkad by Road to Guruvayur, but couldnt visit Palakkad due to lack of knowledge about the city.
But Palakkad started becoming popular tourist attraction since 2011 through Facebook and other Social Media Sites as many North Indian Groups/ Families/ Corporates have visited there during 2011 and published the attraction pictures in Facebook and other sites and hence we had a tendency to visit Palakkad.
Then we have visited Palakkad during 2011 with our family. We have enjoyed a lot over there . Then we started bringing tourists to Palakkad during 2011, 2012 & 2013. We stayed at Hotel Sayoojyam Residency, located in Robinson Road on 2011, which, we felt like a good hotel for a family as well as a group. The main advantage of the particular hotel is the entire staff speaks English / Hindi, which is really difficult to find in Kerala hotels. Most of the staff members are from North East India and few are from Kerala itself. Anyway it was our awesome experience over there. Shopping and tourists spots are near by the hotel.
Coming to the attractions: Palakkad is a very good tourist spot for a family as well as a group as we can see many interesting attractions within short distances. Few attractions launched recently( We have seen it on last December). In fact, as per our experience, Palakkad is the only best and beautiful tourist spot in Kerala, suited for all, rather than other default popular destinations.
Palakkad Local Attractions:
Palakkad Fort, Archeological Museum( recently opened), Chinmaya Mission Temple, Jain Temple, Sri Shiridi Sai Temple( about to open in this month), Kava, Kalpathy Heritage Village, Malampuzha Dam, Lake, Garden, Hanging Bridge, View Points, Rock Garden, Rope Way Trip, Aquarium and Snake Park.
Nelliyampathy Hills:
This beautiful hill station is located 75 km away from Palakkad City. We didnt find good hotels over there, but food is available in few hotels/ resorts. So this spot is suited for a day tour to and from Palakkad. But normal hotels/ lodges/ dormitories are available there for medium range accommodation. If you are looking for budget hotels, best stay at Palakkad and visit Nelliyampathy for a day tour.
Nelliyampathy Hills Attractions:
Pothundi Reservoir, Mud Dam, Nature Garden, View Points, Seethargundu, Kesavan Para, Manpara, Poabs Estate, Tea/Coffee Estates, Waterfalls during monsoon, Trekking, Forest Walk and Jeep Ride/ Safari through Forest. You can see many paddy fields in between your journey.
There are few more amazing destinations in Palakkad apart from the above, which we havent visited and plan for a trip soon. Below is the attractions.
Silent Valley National Park, Parambikulam Wild Life, Siruvani, Meenvallam Waterfalls, Dhoni Waterfalls and Peacock Sanctuary.
Hope the above details will be helpful for all to visit Palakkad and near by attractions.
