Thankar bachaan is one of the rare directors who thrives hard to give the tamil audience a quality movie and hence obviously you know what to expect so ..pallikoodam is no less. Theres been a trend with our modern day lifestyle that we spend lot of money not just to renovate temples but then build new ones when ideally the same could have been spent constructively in more important issues that this society needs .. for say education .. being one among them .. This basically is what pallikoodam all about
*Plot
*The plot captures a school in rural tamilnadu where in short term remedies cant prevent rain water seaping through the thatched roofs . such is the plight of this school as the govt has already asked the school to be shut down due to lack of proper amenities.. Kokila who is a teacher played by Sneha is the grand daughter of the founder of the school finds herself fighting against all odds from her own family members to keep the school runing.
The headmaster and Kokila think of getting all the old students to the school so that the same could be utilised to raise funds for renovation . Kumaraswamy played by the director himself takes the responsibility of getting his fellow classmate vetrivel played by naren who now is an IAS officer and collector of an adjacent district. The reunion there on gets Muthu played by director seeman into the fray with vetri and kumaraswamy. The plot there on is all about there old memories of school days , the unfullfilled romance between vetri and kokila , the separation of the friends and how they feel and rejoice there reunion . Does the school get the support and funds that require to survive is what thankar has narrated beautifully with all the melodrama
postives
apt characterisation of all characters and thankar has a nice role for himself
touching theme .. it really makes u feel when u see that damaged school
beautiful narration of the student days
crisp screen play
simple melodrama when ever needed and its sweet and literally brings in the required tear in your eye at all the emotive junctures no matter what
shreya reddy and her role as jhensy .. Impressive that she selects such wonderful powerful roles
Seeman as the director is sutle and impressive and portions where thankar opts to take his old shirts and jeans , introducing the ill jhensy later , or when he is strandled between the emotions makes his presence felt..
*negatives
*- songs and romantic portions of kokila and vetri I guess thankar needs to do a bit of homework and catch up with romance
- Though the intial attempt was to to convey how money could be usefully spent for important issues the plot gets diluted a bit with personal melodrama
*Verdict
*Any movie which is so darring to make you ask your inner self of some of the basic questions of what has made you for what you are today .. has to be credited and clearly its chak de pallikoodam in that respect. The movie does try to answer some of the queries that you may have never bothered to ask before with such a busy career all these days since you left .. your school .. your teachers and all those valuable relationships that you would have grownup with in school days .. especially it does remind you of the burning desire to spend the day in class with all with whom you would have studied... kuddos thankar for a good product ..
