Stylish and cute phone

There are 2 kinds of mobile users-those who consider their mobile as just that-a phone you can carry around-and those who like to express themselves with their phones, customizing and personalizing it as much as possible. The GD 68 is for the latter category. It’s quite a compact set, around the same size and price as a Nokia T2100, but with features that would beat the crap out of it. (My dad has a T2100, hence the comparison) I won’t waste time listing features-those can be found here- https://panasonicmobile.com/a_eng/products/gd68/ But here are my feature specific comments- -The 256 color display is good, though not as sharp as higher priced handsets with 4096 color capability, and is hard to see under bright sunlight -The phone comes with 12 built in polyphonic tones-which are not loud enough to be heard in noisy places. If you frequently take the local train, or are in a generally noisy area-you will have problems. However, monophonic tones (entered using the composer) sound quite loud by contrast -Many other reviewers have complained about lack of ringtones/logos for this handset. While you won’t find any compatible ringtones, logos etc on any Indian sites, once you enable GPRS (Available from Hutch for Rs. 100 a month) there are numerous sites offering free ringtones and logos over WAP-so you don’t have to pay unlike downloading over SMS. -GPRS works fine, including downloads etc. The settings for GPRS are available on Hutch’s website ( http://www.hutch.co.in). In addition to what is given, you have to specify a port number in this phone-the number to use is 9201. Free logos are available from wap.panasonicbox.com (open it on the phone) -Theres no MMS or Java support, but then for less than 6000, this is good enough! -Try https://polyphonicringtonez.com for free ringtones-I’ve built up quite a good collection! Also see https://tagtag.com-you can check your email also from yur mobile. -The handsfree speaker is great while driving, dump it on the seat next to you and talk! -Talktime of 6 hrs is quite reasonable, but using GPRS for extended periods will of course shorten battery life. -The keypad is a bit small for people with large hands, and for a Nokia user, the interface might take a little adjusting to-especially the joystick. But on the whole its easy to use. -The vibrator mode and the ringing mode are mutually exclusive, ie it can’t ring and vibrate at the same time.-The games that ship with it suck, and you can’t download other ones either. On the whole however, I’m quite happy with it-it’s a million times better than a similar priced Nokia 2100 or 3300 series phone which serves as an entry level phone for the masses. If only Panasonic would market it properly here, it could beat the crap out the Nokias mentioned. To sum up, if you’re looking for style and statement at an affordable price, go for it!
