Long back, I went shopping to a circuit city in the local mall, for buying cordless phone. There I had variety to choose across different brands and styles and frequencies...
A sales man came for a help and led me to see a new phone just came up. I liked the silver grey color of the phone. First looks did impress me. I asked for the features. I already could see features like
card less one,
caller ID,
dual key pad,
speaker phone,
900 MHz,
Volume control etc.
He started with a big list of features:
I can answer calls both from hand set as well as base unit.
I can transfer the call from hand set to base unit - I just love this one. I use the cord less phone, transfer the call to base unit, hear the dial tone (on speaker phone), dial the number, get it back once it starts ringing or somebody lifts it. This is too good feature when somebody’s number is engaged. Good for holding easy on you.
Speed dialing - You can set some regular numbers to ’’1’’ ’’2’’ etc and instead of typing all numbers every time for dialing, just dial the speed code assigned by you and that’s it. Number is dialed. I liked this too.
Intercom - Many a times, I hold this phone and go out around the house. Could be sitting at lawn, or cleaning the car, or chatting with friends outside. If I want to talk to somebody at home, this is useful as a internal extension, without cost.
Caller ID - With this, you will know who will be calling you. Then you can decide whether you want to take the call or just ignore. You can avoid this tele-marketing calls (like credit card calls) with this.
Unfortunately, this caller ID feature is not working with land lines from BSNL at India, due to some network compatibility. Well, it works very well with other providers like TATA telecom. Cool one.
Answering system on base unit - People can leave messages whenever we are out or we dont lift the phone to check back later, at no cost to me. It can tell me when the message was left. If the caller ID works, then you can see the caller number as well.
Battery talk time - with the branded standard battery, I can talk for atleast 3 hours continuously. I did talk for more that 2 hours in a single call many times. How could I know that ? In the hand set, you can see how long you were talking, during the call. Neat feature.
reachability of handset - I can be away atleast 100 meters from base unit and can still use the cordless handset. I like this as it covers a lot for me around the house, that too with same reception, digital way.
